    Talking New Powerbook G4 17" and iPod 60GB :D

    Hello guys,

Today has been quite a hectic day here in Singapore. Took the night flight over and I pretty much passed out and missed out on a nice business class meal (damn...) and woke up as the words "cabin crew prepare for landing" boomed over the PA system...

Went out to town at around 10:30am and had a pretty nice prawn dish (with peri peri) and a lime coke and headed over to the AppleCentre@Orchard. I had already booked a 15" pbook with superdrive but really wanted the 100GB HDD and 128MB VRAM but this would take 10 days.

As I entered the store I took a look @ the 17" and mmmmmmm well liked it .

First impressions - Wow...why did I ever bother with the 12 and 15 pbooks?!?

It is very thin, the thinnest at 1"...light and doesn't feel any less portable than the other two...of course I do have a HUGE crumpler bag...hehe.

The iPod is charging right now and I think I'll probably sell my 40GB 4G iPod that still has warranty till August 2006 with the iTrip as a bonus...

Will post back later with anything I find interesting. Btw, I find the trackpad 'scroll' feature very VERY nifty!

    Mike

Because you wanted a portable computer? I would never buy a notebook larger than my current 14" Travelmate.

My 17" is perfectly portable. The extra screen size is a must for the apps I use (music production, video editing etc) so I don't have any choice, but it's not that bad when you consider it as a package.

Yea, it is indeed sweet and I think I'm gonna go search some car shops tomorrow for a laptop stand. Would be interesting if I can find one that can accommodate it...

Portability, amazingly enough the size isn't that much of a problem. I went 15" then 12" and found the 12" was still quite a bit to lug...and consider the crappy screen quality (This is simply gorgeous!) it really wasn't worth the down grade. However I don't regret going 15, 12 and now 17...it has been an experience

Grrr, running out of wifi credits and would need to buy another card tomorrow, take care guys, Mike

ooops..I also forgot to mention. The main reason for getting the 17" is that I'll be spending alot more time @ Uni in the lab and out of my room and it will deffo come in handy. Also by June 2006 I plan to return home for a fairly long time and want to bring my G5 back in December this year and sell my 23" HD display (As I got the 42" plasma at home). The G5 cost me around £1350-1400 with upgrades but would sell for around £1000 max, and is a shame as it performs very nicely.

    Ok...blabbing on a bit there

Back home and sorting out the 17". Sometime this week I need to lay a 50m cable from my room to the garage and hook it up to the Airport Extreme, this way I can access the network from the car before departing on any trips

I installed the AEBS yesterday and tested out the signal strength today. Amazing! It covers almost ALL of downstairs, including the front garden and I also get a 100% signal in the master bed room upstairs (which is directly above the main dining hall)...

The signal doesn't reach my den (which is in a corner of the building) and the upstairs pantry...An Airport Express should sort that out
