    Dell flat panel/LCD jobbies (20")

    Hello ladies and gentlemen...

Quick question, i'm using a Phillips TFT at the moment with my Mac Mini, it's garbage, so i'm going to get a new one, either a 20" apple or 20" dell display.. Now i've been told that the two are one and the same, except for the name and badge, is this true? as the Dell is a damn sight cheaper...

    Anyone ever used these monitors?

Would they be ok for using with the Mini?

    Cheers

    Dan.

    Hi

the Apple 20in acd and the dell 2005fpw are using the same panel so they could be declared the same.

The difference between them is the ports supplied and the bezel. The dell has lots of inputs vga/dvi/s-video and 4 usb ports (the display can be hooked up to multiple machines and switched between them with one button) The ACD just has a couple of usb ports and a couple of firewire ports.

I'd save yourself the money and go for the dell every time.

That said I don't understand people getting widescreen displays when normal ones are actually far more usefull for everything apart from widescreen dvd playing. Most games don't support widescreen resolutions and for things like web surfing your display is about as useful as a 17in display.

I'd look at the 2001fp dell personally its supported by nearly all games and works far better for web surfing office work and developement.

The panels are the same, the Dell has a better backlight, and more inputs.

    Go with the Dell.

They arent the same, the dell doesnt have the aluminum bezel, they are merly the same panel, The menu systems etc are prob different, and the apple looks a lot nicer. If you go for a 19" then my display (LG L1980Q if you dont have sigs) comes highly reccomended, very sexy, even a nice bit of white plastic for you mac users, thank god i cant see that.

The Dell 2005FPW is currently £390.39 delivered. However, some people have problems with brightness from this TFT [http://tinyurl.com/77uu8] on cetain Macs. [Radeon 9650] but they're really good on PCs [Dell 9100 GeForce 6800].
