    Disapointed with powerbook?

I recently purchased one of the new powerbooks:
    15.2" superdrive
    1.66Ghz
    80GiB HDD
    512Mb RAM
    128Mb Ati Radeon 9700
I got it from Canada on a gap year out there, so it was a bit cheaper than english prices, i think I paid around £1500 for it.
I was really excited to pick it up and get using it, that was about 3-4 months ago.
Now that i've been using it for a while I feel a bit disappointed with it, it's not quite what I was expecting, I think i would have been better saving the money and builing a new PC with it, what do you guys think?
I'm thinking of maybe selling the p'book and getting a desktop PC to take to uni with me. Is that wise?
Thanks guys I'm not really surew what to do

Before one decides to go Mac you have to make a few choices first.

What are your main uses of the machine and is gaming a huge factor? If you said yes to gaming, then Macs aren't your best bet. If you said no, and game on consoles but want a sweet system to do everything else and a whole lot more I think you'd be more than satisfied. To the regular user OS X is what is just on top, but dig deeper and there is a whole lot more that can be done, but will be appreciated by *nix/linux users...

I guess another problem for some people is adapting to the different programs that suite every need. Simply put, if you did something in windows there IS a Cocoa alternative out there and more!

At the end of the day your box should serve you and you'll have to decide what you want and what you want from it, but best of luck switching...erm back

I bought a pBook almost 2 yrs ago now (the first 15" in the current style) with a 1.25ghz and I use it daily.

I've got consoles for games like mike says, and anything else I run on the pBook.

I love it and wouldn't change it, even tho it's 2 yrs old now.

CocoPops (heh cool nick!) I seem to have run through in order - 15" Titanium 1Ghz, 15" Alu (1.25) dead in 2 weeks, replaced, then 12" 1.33Ghz and now moved onto the 17" 1.67Ghz...

I plan to keep this pbook for a while, deffo longer than a year... It is the fastest pbook i've had to date (not only CPU wise...) it has a 5400rpm 100gig hdd, 128MB DDR RAM for the Ati 9700 GPU and soon I'll be adding 1gig bringing it up to 1.5GB ram. With the resolution (1440x900) it serves all my requirements and I wish I went with the 17" when I purchased the 15...of course that would have left me without a 8x superdrive and scrolling touch pad..I must say the 'scroll' feature is awesome and every pbook/ibook should have it...

Got to agree. My 12" PB has relegated my desktop to newly found UD duties and the od bit of gaming.
    Not around too often!

Depends how much you want me to pay Seriously though, I took my desktop to uni a few years ago and found it a right royal PITA. You'll be able to take a laptop to the library and any coffeeshop hotspots near you for a chill out. I'm looking for a Powerbook for my PGCE this year.
