    Mic Problems

Right, I have just got a headset, headphones microphone jobby.

However I cannot seem to get it to work at all! The mic appears to have noo input. I pop the mic into the line in socket and nothing at all happens!

Is there something I need to do on a mac that I am missing here!?

BTW I am on a G4 PB running tiger.

    Cheers :-)

yeah my iBook G4 has internal mic so i assume your PB does too (tiny hole top right next to screen)

never been a problem for me, however there are USB thingy's that i saw just the other day that would give your mac a mic socket. have a search, i think i saw it on the 123macmini site that was posted in one of the threads in the last few days

well there are differences between line in and mic ports otherwise they wouldnt be two seperate ports but i dont really no the differences between them,

im only guessing but i think you can't do it through the line in

You could always check the Input tab on System Prefs, Sound. Check the vol controls and the right input device is selected. As for the mic/line in ports...a mic port is slightly diff from the line in, as I believe some mics need to be powered or amplified, so theres differences in Vout etc.

Yeah I did that, and nothing coming through.

I guess it must be something to do with the differences between a mic and line in port I suppose!

    Cheers for the help :-)

Line in = high level signal.
Mic in - very low level signal.

Plug a mic into a line in and you'll just get noise. You need a preamp for the mic if you're going to plug it into the line in.
