    Video iPod

    Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a Video iPod for my gf for xmas. I wanted to know what kind of format the videos need to be saved in to watch on the iPod?

    Thanks all

quicktime i believe. there should be numerous guides floating about online, should also be able to do it all with free and open source software.

Have a look on Engadget.com i'm sure they had a link to a guide at one point

ok. quick search on google gives me this:

    http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000027063418/

you don't need QT Pro. You might need to go from WMV to AVI then to MP4, but just google for it, there will be a guide somewhere for you

Save your money and get a Archos video player. It has a bigger screen and can hold more

Ignore the silly Engadget guide, it's way over complicated and a cock eyed way of doing it. There are already free programs around that do it all for you in a couple of easy clicks. Or use Nero recode if you have that already.

Thanks for all the input lads.

Want to get the ipod as its small. Video is just a bonus. The Archos media players are nice but a bit overkill for what im after.

Is Nero Recode part of the Nero Suite?

Yeah, it's part of the Nero 6 and Nero 7 suite. You may need to download some extra codecs, but that free and easy, but i think it would work striaght off anyway.

BTW, will you be planning to play any CD's that are gapless, i.e. dance mix CD's, live gigs, audio books etc? Because the ipod does not support gapless playback (there will be a 2 second gap between each 'track' that was not pressent on the CD). If you can live without video, i would concider something else if this is an issue. Sorry to confuse you, but just thought you should know that. I have a lot of mates who are into electro/dance who are screaming blue murder at thier iPods right now!

Good article on that here; http://pretentiousname.com/mp3players/

But yeah, the ipod video is a very nice bit of kit, so it that does not bother you (bothers the hell out of me) then go for it

In your start menu look in the Vision Extress folder. Otherwise, you must have the Standard no-fill's OEM version of Nero (i bet you got it free with your burner). You need to update it to the Ultra/Premium/whatever version. It's actually there already, it's just not activated. You just need the right serial number (which you should obtain legally through the proper channels of course). Stick it in a lots of other stuff with be available too, like the Nero Digital and DVD Video burning etc will become available.
