    surgery on an iBook

has anyone here opened up the 12" iBook G4

ive got part numbers for a replacement trackpad or a whole top section - and the top piece that covers the TFT

basically the trackpad is £12 plus £100 - it isnt that difficult surely?

they wanna charge £50 labour i think just to fit the back cover of the tft - and as i can see its only 4 allen key screws and it's off

is there guides anywhere on dismantling?

oh and anyone know where i can buy the parts? i have the part numbers...

It's an absolutely FANTASTIC site for taking apart apple notebooks.

Oh, and a good place to get mac parts from in the uk is VIS at www.applemacparts.com .

As for the "spudger" which they babble on about on that PBfixit site, I managed to get one from RS - http://rswww.com/ (search for spudger) but I did have to, erm, file it down a bit because the head was a bit too thick.

I've opened an ibook G4 before, its not hard. As long as you get one of those service books. I modded a LCD cracked ibook to a HTPC last year lol
