    Apple 23'' or Dell 24''

    ok,

    its decision time.

Going to drop the dual screen as someone else needs the monitors as individuals, so I'm going ot move to a single larger screen.

i'd appriciate feedback from users on both. I did have a dell2401 at one point but I never really used it and got rid of it quick.

Both have the same native resolution

    1920 x 1200

the apple one is marked as 23'' viewavble, while the dell one doesn't say 23'' viewable, it does look like its 23'' viewable from reading reviews.

    Botth claim 16ms response time

so on paper both look as good as each other on the base spec.

however, the dell has more usb 2 ports, can take a lot more inputs, rather than just DVI, and it has an onboard SD card reader.

the dell has picture in picture too, which looks useful.

The Mac has USB and firewirel which the dell doesn't but just seems to accept DVI intput only, which isn't a big deal as I'd be connecting on DVI.

the mac display is also more expensive, much more if you look at the this week only deal on overclockers.

Whats peoples thoughts on which display ?

I should really be just getting the dell from the specs I can see on paper but something is making me consider the mac.

    opinions please.....
    It is Inevitable.....

I have the Dell and it is simply awesome. Amazing screen - wouldn't swap it for anything else in the world

If only F.E.A.R. wouldn't do a small dip below 30FPS when I played it

Aren't LCDs always quoted by their viewable size?

i.e. Dell 2405 (or whatever) is actually 24" viewable (unlike CRTs where 24" is the tube size and it would be ~22" viewable).

Now if you'd said to me: Dell 24" or Apple 30", I might'd said the Apple...

Just letting you know you made the right choice, the component inputs will be very useful to you.

The comparison of the Apple cinema displays with the Dell ones always reminds me of the Waitrose advert about 'quality food, honestly priced'. I do belive the Apple one has the better picture, but if you need the extra inputs / much lower cost then the Dell is a worthy second best.

I'm not sure that's necessarily correct. For example, the Apple and Dell 30" displays actually use the same Samsung panels.

Same with the 20in panel ones as well.

Its only the 23-24 that are actually different panels

I've seen both in 23/24" and 30" guises. Maybe its a superior backlight in the Apple or maybe the Dell hadn't installed the colorsync profile properly or something, but my untrained eye found the Apple's to look nicer.
