    AA - Apple Annonymous

I'm a windows man, born and bred - the closest I've gotten to using a mac was buying an old old old machine for £50 with a 21" monitor (I threw the mac as it wouldn't even turn on) and playing about with the shiny things in PC World.

I was subcontracted to do some work for a university and although I've been paid in cash, my contracter has also been paid in Macs. Since it's free as in beer, I've been given an apple blueberry - 400mhz, 512mb ram, 10gig hd - apparently. It's not arrived yet.

So the big question is, why on earth would I want it :- ) I have no idea what macs can do... is this a good starter machine to learn with?

mmm, that notebook is not good for much.
I have a 500mhz ibook G3 and that struggles with the web
That computer would look real good lining a dustbin, know wonder you got it for free

ok - apparently I was lied to

The _two_ macs they're passing off to me are:

both work and are currently installed with 9.2 one is iMac G3 graphite 600mhz 192mb ram 40GB hard disc
cd-rw drive DVSE model this is the better one. The other is iMac G3 Blueberry 400mhz 64mb ram
    10gb hard disc Firewire DVD-Rom.
So... that any better? I'm donating the blueberry to my scout group as something for them to do their computing badges on - they've got a load of old PIII and athlons to play with too (from my stockpile of crappy PCs)

Is the graphite better for a bit of video work?

No, I wouldn't want to attempt nice video work on a G3, full stop.

What PC do you have at the moment?

Edit: Just saw it in your profile. If you want to edit video and audio, do it on that. Sure, it's a 2.26 Celeron, but it's a ton better than a 600MHz G3 iMac.
