And the intel powered macs arrive....

I have to admit, they've turned up alot quicker than I thought they would.

    http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/

Things are starting to get interesting.

Do you think this will see significant price reductions?

I personally am very dissapointed with the offerings, seems rushed and missing some features teh PowerBook has. You'd have to be a fool to buy a first edition model IMO after teh faults apple have made in the past.

Hehe, rule of thumb. Never buy first revision of any new apple product.

because the PPC G4 processor in the old pbook is an old processor and has been around a good few years - and the G5 wouldnt work in a powerbook after years of trying, the PPC roadmap stalled quite a while ago

meanwhile everyone else is continuing to develop their chips

when apple moved to intel chips it was like 3 years worth of power upgrades all in one

I don't have a mac, but the mac mini looks pretty cool if/when I move house as my next PC and space is an issue! Will all the mac products be moving over to intel in time?

I don't really see this as being an issue with the new intel macs, the developer connection people have been testing the intel version of the core OS for over a year now, and its basically been around since the beginning and kept in sync

The only reason I would consider waiting at the mo is that I think a 13" form factor would be more portable.

Err no they are made by intel Cyrix = ibm if i remember correctly, they had a short run of cpus a good rew years back ( i had a few, a 233mhz and then a few more after up to a 400mhz )

Glad to see that they have been released though, means we just need someone to work out how to get OSX-X86 Final working on any x86 based PC(maybe its already been done?), then I can finally ditch windows for good (except for the odd game I can't yet play on osx eg CSS)
I wouldn't buy the hardware yet though, as has already been mentioned 1st generation apple hardware generally sucks, and even though this time *might* be different I would still wait a month or so to see

I'll probably buy one of the new macbook pro's in the next year or so, my ibook is still serving me well at the moment though so there's not really much point..but by the time a 2nd or 3rd revision comes along i'll snap one up.

It's not the software problems i'd be worried about!

Any Chance of the MACs joining the light side from here then? I bet an FX-60 Based MAC would be a rocket.

Jobs in bed with Intel. Big backhanders, lots of marketing muscle. No chance.

So much for being rebelious and free thinking eh?
