Just a quick question really, how do I delete apps I don't need. Is it a simple case of dragging them to the trash can? Does this delete all the files linked to that app?

In most cases the app is just the single file and thats that, but with other apps there will be stuff in other area's. I believe there is a open source program that removes them fully but I've not used it
I always remove the folder from Apps, then simply do a search for files of the same name. Sometimes you have other files in Library etc which this will then help to remove. It's rare, but can happen
Cheers for all your help people.
To be honest in most cases you are best off using either the uninstall app that gets set up when you install the programme (usually in the same folder), or going to control panel -> add/remove programmes, and removing it from there. These methods are much more complete as they should remove linked files, but not perfect. You'll still need to remove the root folder that was created, and there will still be entries in the registry for them. If these aren't removed, over time, the registry gets full of all the programmes that you've added/dfeleted and can slow things down and cause errors.
Its worth getting a programme like reg cleaner (I think its called), there are free versions about. Use these to remove registry entries that you are sure that you no longer need.
Alternativly there is a programme that you can install that tracks everything that is installed when you install programess, and can remove all of it for you. Can't remember what its called, and I'm pretty sure that it costs, but if you look around I'm sure you'll find it.

I am so glad I swithced to a Mac Mini from my main machine. I can do everything I did on XP with so much ease. The only thing I need to do is upgrade the Ram on the mini and I'm all sorted and things will run slightly better.
For gaming just use a console.

Yup , in osx nearly all apps are a single file (In reality there is sub files inside them so they are special kind of folders) , but deleting them normally is all you need to do
This thread, just made my day
