BBC.co.uk: Malicious worm aims to bite Apple

Mac users are being warned about what has been described as one of the first viruses for Apple's OS X software.

The malicious program, known as Leap-A, tries to spread via Apple's iChat instant messaging program.

The worm disguises itself as images of Apple's forthcoming version of its operating system, called Leopard, and plunders buddy lists if installed.

Security firms said Leap-A was not widespread and was unlikely to catch out many Apple users.

yup read this yesterday, its technically a worm not a virus

and i dont use ichat

but the first worm/virus that ive ever heard of on a mac compared to millions of viruses on windows - i think ill take me chances

its not gonna make me run out to the shops and buy AV and FW for my mac!

lol yea same here. I also don't use iChat AV but Apple might address a fix in the next SU.

its not gonna make me run out to the shops and buy AV and FW for my mac!

Some friends (avid mac users) have always used Macs without AV or FW and never had probs (tbh I'd want AV & FW) but seem to get by fine.

Not the first I've heard of, but there are v. few.

well to say i dont use a FW is untrue - i dont have a software firewall but my router does have one.

but no ive not had a single problem without using AV or FW - and you dont have the annoying problems of updating it, and those stupid popups every 5 minutes - "blah blah blah is trying to connect to the internet"
