Virus / General protection for a MAC?

A friend of mine has an iMac (one of the old 1GHz PowerPC ones I believe). I'm installing a network in their house, primarily for broadband access, and the Mac will be one of the clients (via Ethernet rather than wireless).

I'll be using a decent SPI firewalled router, but of course this is only one level of defense... What virus/other protection should I be looking at buying/configuring for the Mac? I'm quite green here, so would really appreciate advice on any software that it shouldn't be without.

They're quite happy to pay for Norton, or some equivalent if need be...

Thanks so much in advance for your advice,
    Simon.

For av protection look at clamxav its free, you don't really need anything on the mac.

Just turn on the built in os x firewall as well.

macs generally don't need virus protection, as the majority of viruses are written to specifically target PC users, and therefore macs come out unscathed. however there have been some reports of viruses coming out for the mac now, but most require the user to install a program or enter in their password.

you should be fine, especially if it is going through a hardware firewall.

    The router should be fine.

My mac just goes through the firewall and i have no problems, the mac does have an inbuilt firewall and youc an also enable that if you want, but that may cause some conflicts.
