    iPod Questions

If I buy a 40gb iPod, can I use it for external storage as well?
Can I store AVI files etc and other docs on there?

Does it Mount like another drive volume?

Can I have more mp3's on the iPod than on the Mac iTunes?
Or Do they have to be synced to have the same files?

Can I plug it into a WinPC AND my Mac?
Or once it's been synced with one, the other is barred?

Thanks in advance for any time spent answering my inane ramblings

    Lee.

As far as I know you can use it for storing anything, as my mate was putting random stuff in his.

You can probably have more MP3s on the iPod than iTunes as you dont have to use iTunes so I highly doubt it forces you to sync exactly.

I really doubt it was bar anything, the only thing you have to be careful of is protection on the files themselves, where it may not let you use them.

    Just a few ideas.

That's not true. When I connect my 20 Gb iPod to my PC it's recognized as another hdd and I can drag and drop whatever I want.

It can be used as a normal HD but I think you need the iPod drivers installed to do so and you can't see your mp3s when they're loaded on it.

And yes, you can have more mp3s on the iPod than on your HD. There's an option under the synch menu to just upload new ones and not delete ones not found on the host system.

Right, if you want to use your iPod on both mac and Pc you will want to format it as a windows iPod, then it can be used in both iTunes and whaterver you want on your pc. To get it to work as a HD, go itno itunes, plug it in, select iPod preferences, and select "enable firewire disk use" or words to that effect. You can also select to manually move files across to and from the iPod, or to only auto-sync some playlists

You don't need to install any drivers as long as you are using Windows XP, my laptop recognizes the iPod without installing anything
