    Macbook RAM

    Hiya guys,

I'm looking to order my first apple today or tomorrow. It is going to be a Macbook, 1.83ghz.

I'm trying to decided on the amount of RAM to get, is !GB from the apple store enought or am I better off buying 2GB (where is the best place to get it from?) and upgrading myself.

I also wondered is getting 1 !GB stick now and running with 1256Mb is a possibility, how bad is peformance outside duel channel mode?

I wouldn't worry too much about dual channel mode. I run my MacBook with 1GB and it doesn't have too many problems. The extra 1GB is very expensive as its 2x1GB rather than 2x512MB!

    MacBook - 2Ghz - 1GB RAM - 120GB HDD

I bought 2gb for mine and fitted it before I even powered it up

    2x 1gb from Scan, total £112.

I have a 1.8Ghz Macbook with 2Gb Corsair RAM from Scan, I think that 1Gb is enough unless you are going to use Bootcamp or Parallels for Windows, there wasnt that much of a speed increase from the 512Mb that it came with, i would suggest you decide after a week of using it.

Which memory did you buy from Scan? Can you please post the link to the product here?

    Many thanks.

I've been looking at crucial's site - memory has gone up loads in the last few weeks. 2*512MB was £75 the other day - its now £122. 2*1GB is now £212

    Prices have gone up slightly.

    It's here:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=353418

It's now £140 for 2gb, but still cheaper than apple

Mine has been running fine since I bought it, I've never run my macbook with anything less than 2gb, so couldn't comment on speed etc.

It runs OSX and Vista RC1 (in Bootcamp) fine and neither have had memory problems.

That's the same stuff I was pondering, glad to know it's supported since Googling last night wasn't exactly conclusive on whether it was or not. Cheers Coco, just need to sell more of my soul to grab a pair.

First impressions of my 1.83GHz Core Duo Macbook are that 512MB simply is not enough, 1GB mininum needed methinks.

Two cheap UK Mac RAM websites

Just wondering about westavonsystems.co.uk or beast-pc.com for MacBook RAM (westavon-systems.co.uk/pd_1gb_corsair_value_select_ddr2_sodimm_pc5300.cfm; beast-pc.com/pd_1gb_corsair_value_select_ddr2_sodimm_pc5300.cfm).

They both have the RAM for £56.25, which is the cheapest I've found, and cheaper than the two 512MBs Apple upgrade at £70. Also cheaper than scan.co.uk. Will this RAM work in the MacBook?

    Thanks all

    gal

hey there, yeah it certainly will work - check out the corsair model numbers on each item - both are VS1GSDS667D2. Same memory - different prices - west avon systems bargain find, thanks a lot gal

price inc. About £118 for 2GB of RAM. Bargain.

    WAIT!!!

Just went to place my order feeling very happy with myself to have found it this cheap - came to £118. Their order system is particularly dodgy with no obvious secure connection and the payment required was a direct bank transfer?

There are a few concerned posts here also. I would steer clear and pay the extra to buy from some one trustworthly - like scan.

I eventually went for G.skill F2-5400PHU1-1GBSA modules (1GiB each, DDR2-667) from Memory-C. Works fine in my Macbook.

Thanks for the heads-up there. Was just about to order from them, looking at the other forum posts, pretty glad I didn't now...

    Re: Macbook RAM

It is interesting to note that the thread about west avon products and steve palmer-leigh has disappeared. Anyone have an idea what happened?
