    Couple of questions

Thinking about picking up an emac or Imac but i'm well out of the loop where macs are concerned.

A few years ago I owned a G3 450 which used to be next to useless with non quicklime media files. I just need to know if the situation has improved?

Basically I would like to be able to play the following:

    Divx
    AVI
    MPEG
    WMV
    RM

Like I said I know my old mac used to be poor with these files, i'm just hopeing things have improved.

Look for a program called VLC. This will play nearly all types of videos. You can get DivX codecs for the mac, and MPEG will run in quicktime, but the rest can be easily done in VLC. Also, your old mac will probably be more than capable of running these files.

    Go do it.

    Keep us informed.

eMac's are superb value for money, but it depends if you want the "niceness" of the iMac screen etc.

I know what you mean about the looks issue. I'm actually leaning towards the eMac tbh. I know the iMac looks better, but the idea of having less wires with the eMAc appeals to be for some reason.

there's no reason why you can't replace the standard drive they use standard ATA drives same as PC's.

As for adding it, tbh I've no idea.

I guess the eMac is more likely to support multiple HDDs as there would be more room inside.

Take a look over at the http://www.apple.com/ukstore and check the tech specs.

AFAIK you can stick in any drive, tho you may have to format it before putting it in.
Be careful opening the eMac, the monitor is going to be making very high voltages.

    Thumbs up

Ta. I wasn't looking to add another HDD rather replace the one it comes with. BTW I know what your saying about the voltages, had many a shock from working on crt's in the past.
