    Good deal on ibook?

I'm very tempted by this little ibook, it's just for writing essays, going on the internet and looking at PDFs. Is it a good price, and do you think I'd be better waiting for the sales in the new year?

I think you'd be best off waiting - or getting a Windows based laptop - you could have a higher spec for less

It's hard to find cheap small laptops it seems. The 12" windows based systems seem to be rather pricey.

If you're writing essays and reading PDFs (at the same time) then a higher res/bigger screen are a god send (I find my 1680x1050 screen a bit too small ).

Otherwise, if a 12" laptop is what you want go for it, but I'd be tempted to see if apple do any deals in the new year

Probably not at the same time, tbh. I have a PC with 1680*1050 and a 1440*900. This is more of a on the go kind of thing and for when I trek home every now and again. I think I may hold out for a bit though.

Well lets put it like this, that's the only 'new' 12" Apple laptop you can buy. So if you want a small as possible Apple that comes with a years warranty then yeah it looks good. However it isn't Intel, so its not going to be great in the performance area, and forget Parallels/Boot-camp.

Lee, i presume you are still at school/uni. so you can get the Apple education discount on a new intel one, the discount is worth a £100 or so. so a new one would cost you around £600. Sure you cant raise that cash?

Or look on ebay for a second hand macbook. I would say go for a mac, theyre fantastic. But id be careful about buying a powerpc version, as they are substansially slower than the new ones.

Indeed I am, I had a look on the education apple store and the cheapest intel macbook I could see was £700, if it was £600 I would be alot more tempted to go for the macbook. I might have a scan through the ebay auctions and see if I can pick up a cheap one there.

    Thanks for the advice.

Check out www.microanvika.com they stock the previous (along with current) revision versions of all the Macbooks. You can get one new for £600 on the dot.

One of my housemates got a 1.4Ghz G4 Mini, it runs great although it came with 256MB RAM - which on OSX is NASTY!

The rest of the laptop looks great and Im often using G4s rather than my MacBook and apart from hardcore processing you really don't notice the difference a great deal.

Its pretty good for the price but upgrade it to at least 512MB RAM

EDIT: Also noticed it only comes with 10.3 :S which is a little out of date!
