Looking nice! How much better is a dedicated player than the xbox addon?

In the 4 slots under the tv you have V+ box, PS3, then EP-30 then XBOX360 although the last is going upstairs and I am going to get a surround sound kit for the spare space

Everything is connected up via single HDMI through a Belkin PURE-AV HDMI switch box. Mainly as I have three HDMI devices and only two ports on the TV. Haven't decided if I am going to get an amp and speakers or just a surround sound DVD player. Ideally if I would like to get something with dual optical so I dont have to faff around with the PS3/EP-30 sound all the time.

The four drawers underneath are full of DVD's, about 300 of them I need to clear out to start replacing with HDDVD/Blu-Rays - I really must put up a classifieds thread lol

    Matt.
err snap on those TV units. Also removed those nasty wheels Also got two of them pushed together.

Steve B - would a 40' LCD fit in that new Ikea unit you got?

    Re: Your HDTV Setups

Matt how are you finding the HD thorugh the V+ box? Picture quality? We have one downstairs but it's only hooked to an old CRT TV as my parents use it as a PVR, but I've got one being installed in my room next Thursday, and I can take advantage of the HD

Currently waiting for the Samsung BD-UP5000 to come in stock somewhere, at the moment my only source of HD is my PC

    Re: Your HDTV Setups

The V+ box is good, but do what I did when the engineer comes, set ip up to HDMI as the Virgin guys set it up via scart. If you compare the signal on a V+ on HDMI compared to standard box on scart even the standard definition is like 3 x better in quality.

I looked at standalone BR players, the PS3 is still the best, the only other worth considering is the new Samsung combi player due in a few months, but you are talking serious money again.

the EP-30 is better than the 360 add on by a long way, not least because its much quieter

Heh, I don't plan on letting the engineer fiddle with my kit too much! I'll have all the cables run ready, etc, including SCART if he needs it to start with.

Yeah I was hoping you'd say even SD stuff upscaled looks good

THe BD-UP5000 combi player will be out after Christmas I reckon, at £500 it's not too bad, I'm willing to pay this as the pre-production units reviewed were very good and it's no longer really "first generation" kit

Been eyeing up the Onkyo TX-SR705 as a replacement AV receiver as well to handle the new sound formats, at £600 it's not cheap Hoping a christmas bonus comes my way this year, it funded my new telly last year!

    Re: Your HDTV Setups

Finally got round to taking some snaps of my new upgrade.

    Treated myself to

    • Onkyo 605 AV Reciever
    • PS3
    • Tannoy EFX 5.1 speaker package

Very happy with the results, watching Planet Earth in Blu-Ray with HD sound is amazing!

I can recommend the Logitech Harmony remotes, I have a 525 and it's great. I don't use the activities though, I just have the devices seperately and you can modify everything through the PC interface etc
