That unit looks familiar!
That unit looks familiar!
lol, i hope you think i put it to good use?
i actually had my parents over, and they didnt ask anything about the speakers, or the tv etc, but they did ask where i got that unit from....
they were suprised thay i got it for free!
Sigh. It's a shame most perents don't recognise the importance of a good HD set!
I have a 50" rear pro too (a Sagem one though), and yup, it's 720p with 2 HDMI, component, VGA, loads of scarts etc. Personally the picure is great, very sharp and excellent black levels. The issue with rear pro is it it just has one colour wheel some people see 'rainbows'; wee splashes of colur over the image when there's movement on screen.
I don't so I'm set!
Yeah, it's a 1080p TV. That pic is from BBC HD, back in the trial days, when the picture quality was a lot better than it is now!
It was for me, at the time I bought it anyway. Plasma still had screen burn issues, and LCD's were still blurry messes with slow response times! Even now, the only TV's I've seen that beat it on performance are the new Pioneer plasmas, and they're a fortune!is a rear pro better than a panel you reckon?
Thanks keef, nice of you to say sotis well nice setup either way matey...
My set is a bit different from Skinleech's set, it's LCOS, rather than DLP. Both methods have their advantages, you get DLP diehards and LCOS fans, in much the same way people prefer Pro Evo or FIFA!why only one wheel?
Yup.they are still like true digital input/output though right?not like old rear pro's?
Nooooo. No gaynesscan you get plasma burn in style gayness or not?
They're plenty responsive, RP's often have quoted reponse rates of about 2.5ms. Many arcade games have RP screens, for instance Sega use Sony RP screens on some of their large-scale machines.are they as responsive though? like for sports etc etc do they do 1080p
The main problem with PRTV's is that you can't really get them any more. Everyone wants something to hang on the wall.
Nothing fancy. I'd like to eventually wall mount the TV, upgrade the speakers and reciever, and hide all the stuff away in a cabinet, but of course I'd need some money for that (and approval from my parents too), and because our house is rented, I don't think I'm allowed to drill holes in the wall.
And, brand new as of Wednesday, my bedroom setup:
...yes, it is just the TV, but I'm getting Sky HD installed up here too on the 12th December (ordered it on the 28th October, that's the earliest they can install it...), and a BluRay player sometime later this year / next year. I don't plan on surround sound though, as my room is a little small for that.
OK, I'll admit I don't have this at home, but did get the chance to play around with it at work a bit...
The high-tech source device
You can see the sensor behind. This is a 4k resolution image projected - the SXRD sensor has a resolution of 4096x2160 pixels. The amount of light going through that is just, well, blinding!
Next time I upgrade.....
A few sample shots - the screen is about 6m wide.
closeup of the second:
I have to admit, the picture these devices throw puts my local multiplex to shame. It's also really apparent when you have such a large picture of any compression artefacts or bad mastering. Cars is pretty much the best quality blu-ray I have to date, and whilst if you pause it and look really close, you can see some mosquito noise and what not, but at a normal viewing distance and during the action, it's just sublime

and the cost is???
Also can I have a job, I can make good tea.

I'm not sure of the whole lot - don't know how much the screen cost. But all together, it's probably about £60k once you add the lens on the end of the PJ. At that price, I'd throw in a PS3 as a freebie
tfboy: Awesome pics, thanks for that.
I'm a big fan of Sony SXRD stuff (see TV above!) and I'm trying to resist buying a VPL-HW10. Not quite a 4k job, but I think it's just what I'm looking for.

I have the VPL-VW50 and it's fantastic (photos further up this thread). The HW10 is probably about the same, I've yet to see one. But they're great projectors and if you suffer from RBE, then it's this or some of the other high-end LCDs. I went for this because I could get the VW50 "cheap" and I prefer the slightly soft, smooth, film-like picture it gives you. Always found the LCDs a bit too "digital".
I don't know if you can demo the HW10 though. You'll have to go to a specialist home cinema place. Most Sony centres are pretty poop when it comes to the high end stuff
I do dislike DLP projectors, so it's a Sony or JVC for me. The JVC is coming down in price to try and compete, but I rather like Sony kit!
Yeah, some of the Sony centres are pretty disappointing. I do know of one Cinema store with the HW10 on demo, but I know I wouldn't be buying from them, so I wouldn't take advantage of their facilities. I'm a former retailer, so I hate that sort of behaviour Might just have to buy based on the views and info from others, it worked with the TVI don't know if you can demo the HW10 though. Why is it that things always look more dusty when on a photograph?
