Hmmm, haven't posted here for ages! Oh well, here goes anyway!
We just bought our first house which was quite a mess and hadn't been updated since 1972. All the walls were rotten, the plumbing didn't work properly, the house needed a complete rewire etc. On top of that I wanted to get all the wires etc. chased into the walls - I wasn't really up to it myself unfortunately, especially on a small timescale (2 months for the whole house) so I got a builder to do it all for us.
It's not quite finished yet, but I thought I'd post anyway. Mainly based around B&W 805s, monolith, and an Optoma HD700x projector, plus a few other bits and bobs.

After:
here's mine
Pioneer KRL-32V TV
Pioneer VSX-1018 Amp
Mirage Omnisat Prestige speakers (left, right, surround, and center)
BK Elec XLS200 Sub (hidden around the side of the sofa)
PS3 (Full fat original Japanese launch model)
Denon DVD-1920 Multiregion DVD player
QED micro cable & custom micro subwoofer cable (they're all virtually invisible, and very hideable )

That's a really weirdly shaped house you've got there Stoo...

Sharing a flat with my classmates, I only get 1 room so my bedroom is my HDTV room. There is a crap XGA DLP projector (which I actually regret buying :S) in the lounge but I ain't putting my TW3500 in there
Have to move every year so there is no permanent installation of any sort. Screen cost me 8 quids plus some cellotape. If I have time I'll get some black tapes to make borders on my screen.
Watching movie / iplayer HD on my bed is extremely comfortable

From my point of view (justifying myself):
Drinking a pint less per day in a pub and you'll save enough for a projector in 2 years.
It was painful when I paid for my projector, but I know it has a 3 year warranty with lamp replacement, and it will easily last another 3-6 years after that (250 quids lamp for 4000 hours), it is not that bad of an "investment" compared to say an iPod. My speakers are 7 years old and still going. My monitor (27") is 1 years old but my other one (20") is 6 years old.
It is not hard to get "value" out of your A/V / computer equipments as long as you're not tempted to upgrade to the latest greatest model every now and then.
If anyone genuinely have a lot of money, first get youself a nice house then think of the AV equipment later, which will be like pocket change compared to the price of the house.

So, a few of you guys seem in the know. Whats the cheapest way of me getting real surround sound as a opposed to me buying the logitech Z-5500's ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
The definition of "real" surround sound is only as good as your ears. To start off with, the Z-5500 aren't bad speakers. Buy it, listen to it, and it you're not happy with it go up a rank (give it some time to break in). Most people can't hear the difference for speakers costing more than the Z-5500. And you can always demo a properly setup sound system in specialist shops.
e.g. I moved up from £1 earbuds to £5, £10, £30, £60, £100, £200 over the last 10 years, which finally I'm fully satisfied with the sound quality (can't hear the difference past this price range)

you whould here the difference if you sat in front of my genelecs tho at 5 grand each might be a tad expensive for surround sound system(can't hear the difference past this price range)
Im thinking more about actually upgrading to 5.1 rather than use my hifi pro-logic 3 rig up, so its a definite set up i can notice - my mates get a relatively cheap LG home cinema set up and i can appreciate the sound difference when ive watched something at his.
I have read good things about the Z-5500's but im wondering if it would be in my best interests to buy seperates just for expansion purposes.
