i'm sorry. you fill your monitors with sand?
no the stands are filled with sand not the monitors but the stands had to be made stronger becouse the speakers bent the base plates and i had to bolt two base plates together to take the weight of the monitors.

My speakers are 7 years old and still going. My monitor (27") is 1 years old but my other one (20") is 6 years old.

It is not hard to get "value" out of your A/V / computer equipments as long as you're not tempted to upgrade to the latest greatest model every now and then.

If anyone genuinely have a lot of money, first get youself a nice house then think of the AV equipment later, which will be like pocket change compared to the price of the house.
I took this philosophy with my car and stopped drinking over 3 years ago, I use the £120 a month Im saving to pay off my car finance. this finishes next June and I WILL have a new TV by then!

And don't worry, I wasn't asking for anyone to justify themselves, i'm sure a lot of people on this forums have great IT jobs that I decided to avoid because I worked in IT for 2 years and it bored the crap out of me!

One day, I will be able to look at my setup with pride, not that I am particularly unhappy with mine at the moment, I have a PS3, Xbox, Samsung 2.1 720 surround system, and an adequate 32" Samsung LCD...

my sarcafice is purely for me to afford a mortgage in a year or two's time. after i get a mortgage i will begin to take AV more seriously with first buying this TV to compliment my new house

I can't remember the issue exactly but i know the ASA got onto them. Something to do with them only using LED lighting round the edge of the screen rather than all. Im sure with a bit of digging you'll be able to find out the proper in's and out's - They do still look brilliant though

    Re: Your HDTV Setups

The issue was that Samsung were, and still are, marketing them as LED TVs. They are infact LCD Tvs with LED edge lighting. Some customers were perceiving that it used LED or OLED instead and decided to complain.... morons.

    No issue regarding "fakes"...

    Re: Your HDTV Setups

Just to make it clear, rather than having a matrix of LEDs behind the picture, like the Sharp LED Tvs do, the Samsung one has LEDs all around the edge of the screen. The picture is still excellent and has good contrast, but the vibrancy and brightness of the aforementioned manufacturer's LED sets is better.

This page shows the make-up of the Samsung LED displays, with the key difference being a reflecting layer with loads of tiny lenses which puts the LED's light in the right part of the screen.

    http://reviews.cnet.com/2300-12982_7...tag=mncol;page

The video here also helps explain it's internals:

    Re: Your HDTV Setups

About to upgrade my set-up shortly after the purchase of my first house!

Changing from the Jamo A102, to have a better balance front end to include 1030i, 1000C and QAV BMR Rears (haven't decided where to hang them yet).

Still there is a lot of decoration and renovation to be done, so photos will take a little while.

I really want to get this P42G10, but I will have to wait until I have spent it all on the house first

    - Panasonic TX - P42S10B
    - Freesat HD
    - Sony BDP-S360 Blu-Ray Drive

Very happy with the setup, although I probably could do with some surround sound speakers to finish the configuration. I'm going to upgrade for Freeview HD in the new year given that the Freesat channels are so limited.
