Your happy so don't waste time worrying about what other think

Its just that most people here are car enthusiasts. There would be a forum for sensible motoring but the only people who are into that are too old to know what the internet is.

You don't need to justify your choice of car here, though this thread is an interesting read nonetheless.

It brings a whole new meaning to car keys in the fruit bowl! I think this place is very pro vag. Perhaps that is why we are getting rid of the mini and getting two cars! A new Jetta for me (company car), go on I'm waiting for the why buy a golf with a boot comments, and the wife is getting a fabia vRS (she may end up driving to London from Leeds every weekend). However driving new cars is fun. I am currently awaiting the delivery of my company car and so have had 2 hire cars. The first was a 56 plate Passat 1.9 tdi beast. Size of a house and same manuvreability. Bloody comfy though. I now have a 407 2.0 tdi and it is much less comfortable, but much more nippy (not saying much). I just can't wait to get back to a smaller car! I also miss my 306 xsi quite a lot.
    Not around too often!

At also depends on which VAG you have. No one likes mine.

There is a MK5 Golf GTI sitting in Glasgow I had thought of going to see at the weekend, but i realised that i can't face the thought of the finance payments for 3 years, so i'll pass just now.

Perhaps i could start a thread with some of the hire cars i get to drive.... but they are all rubbish. Same goes for the works vehicles, Peugoet vans are pants

Not me mate, overpriced ****e IMO! Apart from Skodas I suppose.

Me, I'm pro-banger. As a rule, I find old cars are much better than new cars.

My car: VW Passat TDI 1.9. Quick and big. Fun to drive, handles fairly well (for a big car). I find it easy to park (in car parks) as you can see the bonnet, and the front corners seem rounded, whereas with newer cars, they seem to like to make cars (particularly the Golf) so that you can't see the bonnet. Parking on the street is a bit more difficult as it's not always possible to tell if the car will fit in the chosen gap. Our previous (small cars) were at a definite advantage here. Feels safe to drive - ie you feel that you would be protected by the car in the event of an accident. Climate control is great

If I was after a small car, the Jazz would be high on my list
In fact, I've booked a test drive of the new KIA Ceed

Other (recent) "car" driven: Renault Kangoo Diesel Van. In white, naturally. It's very basic inside, no ac, a non-functioning radio, grim plastic trim (bendy and flimsy in places), and a fairly noisey ride and engine. It has heavy steering, and very little accelleration. It has effective brakes. Fairly firm suspension but it does roll a bit going round corners. It has heaps of space (it's a van ). The seats are basic but acceptable. The handbrake feels very poorly built. Good visibility all round. Definitely feels like it's been built to a price.

Funkstar - what do you have?

I've had a short drive in a few 2000 reg VW Golfs and Polo's and could not get on with the gearboxes at all, they felt ever so flimsy and there was no satisfying clunk when they went into gear... Were they knackered or are they meant to be like that??

I'd say the best drive I've ever had would be my dad's ford mondeo 2.0 Zetec 02. Really nicely built, ever so smooth and a gearbox that feels that you are engaging a gear! Coming in a close second would be a 54 reg Ford Focus 1.8, much for the same reasons as I liked my dad's mondeo. Third would have to be my ill fated rover 200 1.8 because the engine was ever so powerful and it really did pull very well indeed in 5th. Good times had on the M25, M3 and A4 in that!

Well as a general rule, if you buy/drive what could be viewed as an effeminate car then yes, you're gonna get tarred with a certain brush.. Whether this worries you or not is another matter (apparently it does lol) entirely. I rather like the Nissan Micra for example(nice to drive, good visibility) but it's utterly and indisputably girly. Get the convertable and you'll probably be propositioned in the street by other men Where does a jazz sit? Well it's a bit girly, but also a bit flat-cappy (Honda) isn't it? So you're either old, a girl or both lol.

That said, good on you for trying other cars - it's something I do on a regular basis (to the extent where I know most of the salesmen quite well) just to see what's out there. It'd be better to try some of the more 'extreme' ends of the spectrum - get a test drive in in a Evo FQ360 for example, or anything with plenty of power and rear wheel drive etc etc. If you really want perspective then going on a driving experience day at a track - it'll teach you a lot more about cars still (good for e-penis points too probably..). It's dead easy to blag test drives - some garages will lend you cars for entire weekends! Just some thoughts!

I think the plan was to fork the Civic (driven by old men, or the Type R driven by boy racers) into two distinct models. No old geezer would want to drive a current-shape space-age Civic.

As a result, I've only ever seen 50+ men behind the wheel of another Jazz
