    Wipeout!

I was in a car crash this morning. We got cut up, swerved to avoid hitting the other car, lost control, span sideways, then smashed side on into the central reservation all at NSL.

Amazingly I and the driver both came out completely unhurt. We did not break a nail between us, even my sunglasses were still attached to my face
The central reservation managed to absorb most of the impact without throwing our car into another lane.

It could have been so much worse, I’m glad the drivers behind us were paying attention as every one of them managed to react in that split second and somehow avoided hitting us.

This brings up a question; you’re stuck in a car on the motorway. You’re in the fast lane and there is no hard shoulder. Do you: stay in the car and wait for OR get out and stand on the central reservation?

    Ouch. Glad your ok. TTIUWP!

Erm, I'd probably say stay in the car.. cos your smashed up car is gona be a lot more noticable than a tiny person on a motorway.

I'd probably get out and stand ahead of it, then if someone hits your wipeout, you won't be in it, and it won't hit you if you're standing behind it.

    Glad you're OK

glad your ok, its a tricky one... Id say that it would depend on what time of day/how busy the motorway was/what the weather was like, but what machinist said sounds like good advice.

Glad you're ok! That must have shaken you up a bit!

There was nearly a crash just in front of me today with something similar - a car had broken down on the A602 and police had set up cones and warning signs further ahead to warn people. I didn't see the start of it as I was looking at the warning sign when a huge cloud of smoke just appeared a few cars up the road - looked like a head gasket blow but the smell immediately told us it was tyre smoke - can only think that someone didn't realise one lane was being coned off and just jumped into the other lane. The smoke very quickly filled the carriage way which was a bit hairy. The police attending the breakdown just looked bemused..

your susposed to get inbetween the central reservation IF it is safe to do so, ie u get get out the side of the car against the middle, never try making it across all 3 lanes unless you managed to block the road up !

    glad your both ok !

Was a little shaken but recovered quickly. Dont have pictures im afraid, if i get hold of any i'll post them.

The police did stop all traffic temporarily to get us off. I was in no condition to wing it accross 5 lanes of motorway (we were by a joining junction).
