    Don't buy tyres of t'internet...

    ..'cos the following will happen:

    1. You'll call them first, but the language (German) barrier will get in the way, so you'll resort to buying online.
    2. You'll complete your online order, after which you'll get a confimatory email, with dispatch reference/expected delivery date
    3. You'll try to track the order but until the tyres arrive in the UK, they'll be invisible.
    4. You'll get an email with a delivery date, and then the tyres will turn up sooner than expected anyway.
    5. You'll call your local tyre fitter who will quote anything between 30 and 80 quid to fit/balance 4 tyres.
    6. You'll take them to the cheapest plase (Tyreland, who were excellent) but two of the tyres will have been squashed on the way and are completely FUBAR.
    7. You'll call Germany, they'll ask for photos (as proof) before dispatching another pair of (free) tyres.
    8. The courriers will turn up randomly to collect the cr*p tyres unannounced (twice) before going through stages 2-4 for tyres 5-6.
    9. You'll take wheels 3 and 4 to have tyres 5 and 6 fitted, and get wheels 1 to 4 fitted with tyres 1 and 2, 5 and 6 to your Golf Mk4.
    10. Helpful Tyreland fitter will inform you (having fitted said wheels/tyres) that 'the tyres are too wide'
    11. You'll think this a great compliment
    12. Until he explains that they're actually too big. 225s do fit where 215s should, apparently.
    13. You'll get really mad (inside your head) that you were so stupid as to have taken as read the advice of the eBay seller who sold you your wheels that VW Santa Monica alloys take 225/45/17s and not 215/45/17s, even though if you'd looked on uk-mkivs.net and done a quick search you'd have found out in seconds.
    14. You take the advice of said fitter that you probably won't notice ("they might give a little")
    15. Although you do, of course, having been told as much. On the motorway. On a 120 mile return journey to Reading.
    16. So by now the tyres aren't new, and can't be RMA'd.
    17. So you refit the old wheels/tyres at home, to keep the new (old) tyres as new as possible so when you sell them on eBay you recoop as much hard-earned as you can.
    18. While concurrently buying more tyres of the correct size.
    19. On t'internet.

Doesn't this just mean you should know what size tyres you need? If in doubt, go for the same as you had on last time.
