Named drivers and claims

I was wondering if someone could clear up a query I have about claims and named drivers. If a named driver has an accident and claims on insurance, who's no-claims bonus does it affect? Would it be the policy holder, or the driver who had the accident?

Me and a friend are looking at cars and she's got 5 years no claims thanks to Directline's named driver deal. She'll probably protect it but if I get run into again in her car and it's a lot of hassle then I'd feel bad. Any general advice on how named driver accidents work would be appreciated. Cheers!

If you get run into then neither of you would lose your NCB, as it'd be paid for by the liable party.

However I suspect both of you would loose NCB if you were the liable party (don't know for a fact though).

Yeah I got run into, and it wouldn't have affected my no-claims if I had any... Still a lot of hassle though, wouldn't like to put someone through it if they were the policy holder and not driving at the time.

Maybe just give directline or someone a ring on Monday and see what they say. Think we might end up with a car each so hopefully someone will give us a reasonable deal so that we can drive each others.

As far as I know it would be whoever holds the policy.. so it would be on your girlfriends policy. If your that worried though just pay a bit extra for protected no claims.

Not always as easy as that though. Most companies have in place certain criteria that you must meet. From years ago i couldn't get my insurance protected with Directline because they needed 5 years ncb, and had to be 25+ I had the ncb, but was 23.

Bet course of action is to phone up the insurance company and ask them directly.
