    Alfa 159 2.4 JTDM

OK, I'll explain exactly why i was smoking one of these around a test track yesterday, later today, but suffice it to say....

This car worries me. Not cos it's pooh.....but cos it's not.

I was in a convoy of them yesterday, whoosing around Goodwood and not only are they fast, smooth and silent....the buggers go well, handle ok, and the leather seat is good quality. The doors were put together well and I was suprised.

OK...the seats would cripple me after 4 hours, not a patch on my Saab 93 or 95, but still.....

    shocked.

    Anyone got one/smoked one/rented one?

The 2.4JTD are suppose to be awesome performance diesels and with the right modifications are suppose to be really quick.

Once I get my funds together and a few more no claims on my insurance I will be purchasing one of these , the only off putter is the servicing costs (cam belt/water pump etc), it's suppose to be a very complicated job and carries a heavy labour cost.

I actually have the 156 with the previous incarnation of this engine at 175bhp vs 200bhp and it is a cracking car. Handling is great and the engine is very responsive. I test drove the 159 and although I liked it, it felt a bit too heavy. If you liked the 159, try and drive the 156.

My father has a chipped 156 2.4jtd stationwagon (estate) and I have driven it on a number of occasions, it goes like smoke with excellent handling and does 45+mpg. I still wish I could find a comfortable alfa for a 6'4" bloke :-(

Zak33 are you once again confirming Alfa dealers and electrical reputation are holding back another very fine automobile?

    Re: Alfa 159 2.4 JTDM

Alfa have made loads of interesting cars over the years but they don't seem to keep their value very well and some spares can be hard to get - I know someone who had an early 156, damaged the exhaust on a speed bump (!) and had to wait 6 months for a replacement...

Glad you used the word reputation, mine has been absolutely fine. Dealers are definitely improving as Alfa GB closed a lot of the rogue ones down.
