Re: Focus ST or Civic Type-R

I don't think much of the VXR. For one I do not find the driving position comfortable, and the steering wheel touches my legs even when its raised and the seat is down.

TBH I am leaning towards the Honda. But when I have test driven them all, I'll be in a better position to judge. The orange is a mega lure though ...

Isn't that a bonus? It means you can unwrap a Ginsters sausage roll and keep the car stright on the motorway

Odd? hmm each to there own!

Seriously though a naturally aspirated high reving engine IMO is where its at, it'l get you involved it'l make you have to work it shifting down when needed and just generally getting more involved. None of this lazy GTI/ST/VXR foot down and let the turbo pick up the slack.

yeah, i know exactly what you mean.. hammer the Focus and it'll take off in any gear 'cause of it's turbo, but the Civic is just too high pitched tbh, rather have the deep roar of the Focus dropping me off at school

    Civic Type R wise give me an EP3 anyday . . . .

Give it a few years, or even better a pay rise, and id upgrade from 200sx - S2000. V-TEC power all the way up to 9000 RPM

(Yes im quite the Jap whore )

I've been contemplating buying one - although they have a rep for being 'interesting' handling wise (as in 'oh look i'm in a hedge') on the slightly older models. Now i'm a two-car family man i can justify the impracticality to she who cooks the dinners..

Thing is, i'll look like a hairdresser. Not good.

The car as a base (S2000) is great, it's the drivers who tend to stack it. Who cars what you look like in your motor, if you have the skillz, you can pwn people on the track (or road if you want to be on the wrong side of the law).

If I had the cash...Amuse S2300 There were videos of it on youtube but they have all been pulled apart from the one of it parking.

Depending on the sizing of the tubby and how it's all set up, the tubby could be lazy and not really kick in till much higher in the revs. Mine is pig awful at low RPM, full boost at 3,500rpm and peak torque is around 4,500rpm upto 6,500 (lowered limiter) limit. I intended it to be that way, and it's how I like it to drive

Talking of engine sounds...13B Peripheral Ported or even a 20B PP sounds awesome, from idle to full throttle scream. If only I could afford an RX7...or a Cosmo (4th gen)...

Re: Focus ST or Civic Type-R

Well I sat in the Type-R (current one) and the cockpit felt a little cramped (I'm 6ft3!) and the steering wheel touched my knees with the seat in a comfortable driving position. Just felt a little claustrophobic for my liking, although I loved the detail and it was quite comfy. I'd get annoyed with the reduced rear visibility though, plus the seat adjustment was a ratchet rather than a knob.

I sat in the new ST Focus which had room. I hated the interior boxy plastic styling though, my MK1 Focus has miles more class IMO. Liked the turbo gauges on the dash and the carbon fibre details. So I'd probably opt for the Focus. They didn't have one in Orange though ...

On the side, I also sat in the Fiesta ST which has about the same room in front. Too much a girly hairdresser car though!

I had a sit in the MK5 fiesta at the motorshow the year they where launched. The one thing that really struck me was the interior space.
