Says car recommendations are out of date, that you need to find the right amount for your car / tyre, and that by putting in more you can match manufacturers mpg figures...

How much do they put in near you when you get a new tyre?

Pressures from new can vary massively, though they should be as per recommendation. Usually will be spot on.

I still to the recommended for my car/tyre size as it offers the best ride/grip compromise in my case. If possible I'll always put in extra as recommended when loaded as it makes a huge difference but don't leave and empty car with massive rear pressure as it tends to oversteer!

i check mine every week and set it spot on, i can tell when its a few psi out on the back end.. i have 245's tho so they are fussy

31-33psi according to the car but the tyres are rated to 50psi - so 45psi using the 10% rule?

I go with manufacturers recommendations plus 4psi on the fronts - ie it now matches updated recommendations from vaux that better account for the weight of the engine refresh my car has

I am quite anal about tyre pressures - they seem to make an incredible difference to the handling of the car (high profile tyres for the win ) and the variation in pressures due to external weather/temperature is quite noticeable on my car.

Looking at tread wear after a while tells you if you got it right - it should be completely even across the whole width of the tyre that's designed to be in contact with the road. That's the only 'correct' pressure - the one that makes your tyre have exactly the right contact with the road.

Usually best to start at the manufacturers guide and go up or down depending on the load in the car, type of driving and how your tyres perform.
