What grease?

Simple question.

Going to pop into the hardware store tomorrow, as I got two screws out after they'd been stuck there for 18 years or so (of my motorbike), going to get some new ones, and to prevent weathering and corrosion need to cover them in grease before I put them in.

Anything I should look for specifically? Or will lard from the local grocery store suffice . Also installing a new throttle cable so where the nipples join the throttle I'm gonna need to lather it up, preferably with the same stuff. Just want some tips on the right stuff to use as I'd hate to use something that will ruin it!

well i'd recommend loctite for the screws but that wouldn't be a good plan for the throttle cable, just buy some everyday grease from a car store..

Halfords will sell some decent stuff if you wanna get robbed

Well I'll be headed round the corner in the hopes I can acquire what I need from there, if not I'll go to b&q. Am I right in thinking I can flash them a screw and they'll be able to work out which one it is for a replacement? The heads are pretty knackered...

well if you are going to B&Q to ask them i'd look for an older looking guy, none of the younger kids 'cause tbh.. we're all useless while working at places like B&Q

bit of elbow grease never goes a miss

Copper grease on the threads of the screws/bolts so they will come out again in the future, perhaps a little Vaseline on the cable but it would probably be ok without.

If you put a thread lock compound on the screws/bolts, e.g. Loctite, you'll have even more fun trying to get them out next time

Yes, precisely. Copper grease on any bolt/nut/screw you'd like to be able to remove more easily in future, Loctite on anything that might be prone to working loose when that would be a bad thing.

As for the throttle cable, bog standard oil is what you need.
