Erm Sais Zak and I and about 3 or 4 other people so far on this post, jeez only posted my findings of 25 years in the car trade, a father with 40 years in the car trade and many other peoples experience as shown above.

Having cleaned hundreds of cars I've tried loads of different products for cleaning, polishing etc and quite often an old cheap method will be the most cost effective efficient way. My valeter uses Zak's method for interior windows aswell and he cleans thousands of cars/vans etc a year. He uses chemicals for some other car parts and good old water and cloth for others.

Just because you like to spend money on chemical methods is fine, that's what you prefer and that's your opinion. Personally I think your wasting your money on interior glass cleaner but then I'm entitled to an opinion aswell. If we were talking about exterior applications then that's a whole different matter and one where the application of a chemical product can help the water just run off the screen.

Not only that but the use of an old newpaper is probably up there as the most environmentally friendly option by re-using a waste product and a cloth and water is pretty non damaging too.

I'm pretty into my car detailing, so the mention of a valeter makes me cringe, which is where our difference of opinion obviously stems from....

nothing was meant personally tomatoe, tomato....

TBH I was about to respond the same.... "AutoGylm Glass cleaner is brilliant etc..."

But then realised I haven't tried the actual method Zak mentioned in that way so i'll reserve judgement until I have - had that before with Zak's posts - it'll never work - oh, it does - Doh !

A detailer is just a fancy valeter who wants to try and dissasociate themselves from the normal valeter and charge the public a higher price for similar service Bit like a plumber trying to rebrand themselves as a heating engineer Some will still be cowboys and not do a very good job and others will put alot of time and effort into making a car really shine and stay that way.

Also unless you start with the right paint job in the first place all a detailer can do is patch it up. It's relatively easy to detail a veron or the like as the paint job that they start with is pretty top notch and most owners don't go that far in their car to really damage the paints underlayers.

The basis of any detailing work is only going to be to remove impurities then enough paint to make swirls and scratches disapear and then apply polishes etc to build those layers back up and protect the paint underneath and create a new polishable surface.

But back on topic of interior screen I'll stick by plain old water and a bit of elbow grease

I think we'll agree to disagree on the detailing point it's not a casy of being a fancy valeter and charging more.... but that's another discussion for another day....

I was by no means saying water and elbow grease will not work, but I have a box full of stuff, one bottle of which is fastglass, so I use that

bang for buck, water and a cloth can never be beaten, that much, I conceed.

    Re: Cleaning car glass...

the issue witjh uising chemicals on the gass is that it always leaves a residue of some kind, so different kinds of light will show it up.

Some glass cleaners look ACE under strip lights, but when the sun hits it....BOSH...the screen goes a greyish misty finish.

    Or other way around.

    BUT....glass with nothing on it....is....glass.

You also want glass so clean that IF condensation touches it, it dries perfectly, and leaves no runs.

I've only ever found that using NOTHING at all except hot breath works. But man it's hard work.

Maybe that's what that Leo Cappuccino bloke was doing in the back of that car on the Titanic with the one who was in Finding Neverland
