Very swish. Would love a set of buckets, but can't justify the cost right now. Plus would lose the sleeper appeal.. unless I got em in grey I guess.

Yup.....the seat mounts are over £40 each

the harnesses are good value in comparison....just over £110 each

The extinguisher is cheap too.....£160 for a biggun....over 4 ltrs..

I also have tohave a hand held (arrived too) and needed bonnet pins (arrived) and Electric Cut off switch (arrived) and two headsets for the helmets (open face, so boom microphones)

    Plus.....other bits and bobs...

£1300 gone ...all accounted for tho...all in the budget.

Gonna sting David for a little and make it a Hexus car....

    Hexus logos

So you lot are all a bit involved as is only proper

I may have missed something here, but what is the original car this lot is going into? A Vauxhall perhaps?

    Mk 3 Astra 1.6 3dr L reg

Same body shell as GSi model....the most prollific, and cheapest, and best built of the current Vaux range. Choosing the original car is hard....you want small and light, but you also want stable and strong.....you want cars that other people have been using for years, so the parts chioices are high...you want one that spares are easy to get for, preferably second hand in lots of cases, like alloys, mirrors (which get whacked every event) screens, etc etc.

Then engine......I chose 8v cos frankly....in a Vauxhall the engine management that goes with it is so reliable. And lets face it...realiability wins stuff.

But you need speed too.....handling is not such an issue cos its all new springs/dampers/anti roll bars/bushes etc.

Wanted a Power Steering car for speed of lock to lock turns.
    Wanted a 3 door
Wanted to be in 1600 class

    and you're right...

    wanted a Vauxhall

Just met a bloke with a nice car....

    get this.....

he was gonna spend just over £20k on a mid range Merc.....

Wanted a bit of class, nice build, and wanted to pose a bit. Not a racer boy...a steady old guy. Very nice. (no he didn't want a Vaux....can youblame him tho )

    What did he settle on?

    An old Rolls for £7k

I see him EVERY DAY getting fuel...it EATS it (less than 10 mpg he said)

    Is he mad?

Nope...he was gonna spend the £20k on a Merc and sell it in a few years for about £8-£10k

He reckons on using £2k per year more fuel in the Rolls.....insurance is "classic" so cheaper...he knows the service is big dough, but Mercs aint cheap

And he'll get his £7k back again......roughly speaking

Not a silly chap.......rich, but not silly.

made me think I can tell you....if you're gonna lose all that dough....on a new car...go get a bit of pure heritage and spend the money on maintenance and fuel instead.

*looks around for old 911 or Lambo or 'rrari*

Seriously tho...long term...the old high quality tools are cheaper and better than lots of modern things.

As much as you talk sense when it comes to cars, the Octavia I purchased will be with me for 6 years before I shift it, Depreciation will not bother me - it may be sporty but its also practical if by miracle I find a wife in that time, it would also carry kids without problems too, (Though i'd kill em if they puked on my leather )

Plus I can have fun in it too. Plus i'm after reliability too, and i think my car suits to a tea, just depends on the person if they could go classic. Plus don't you have to be a specifc age to get classic car insurance, over 25 or is this something i'm just making up?

    kids?

    <<shudders>>

I think there's a couple of companies about that do classic, but generally you ahve to be over 25 and the policies tend to be limited.
