Angry Why now..?? No boost!

(Sorry for this rant)
Driving home last night from work pull out of junction, change to second accelerate and...nothing...lots of noise...no boost. It's 7pm when I get home and I was meeting a friend for a bite to eat at 8:15pm.

Quick fiddle and i guess it is the BOV and the spring gone inside. That's ok, I have a spare spring. Where is my 6mm allen keys? Lost them. So I can't take the BOV apart to find out. Ok, time is 7:30pm. Find the recirc system and install that. Next problem, vacuum hose is too short to reach; need to find another one.

All in all, I swapped it over and got to the restaurant for 8:30pm (oops). (What should have been a 5 minute swap job turned into an hour of looking for tools or long enough vacuum hoses.)

Trouble is, still no fricking boost. I think, "Ahh, I must have stuck it on the wrong way round." Took it off this morning, it is installed the right way round. So now, not only are my PC bits all off for testing/fault finding now I need to spend the weekend searching for where the boost leak is.

All this JUST before I need the car to get to Earls Court on the 19th for London Film and Comic Convention (already spent £60 on tickets, talks and photos) and a trip to see the family 180 miles away.

Here I was thinking I'd treat the car to some poly bushes and Gaz coilovers at the end of the month.

I swear my car gets PMT, knows just went to throw a barny...

Mk2 MX5 + T3 tubby @ 10PSI

Sorry, this is less about asking for help (though any pointers would be appreciated) more about how the car just throws a wobbly just when I need it the most.

T3 - slow spool but nice big lumps of bhp and torque. lol.

Honestly, I regret Tubbying the car. So much needs to be done along side it if you want to really wind up something like a T3.

Plus then you have the added headache of things like what has happened to me. Although it has been faultless for almost a year...something was bound to go wrong.

Hehe...as for the gay comment...meh. These are fun cars, not the best in terms of track use but are abit more practical than an Elise.

*sigh* I should have held out for the S2k I always wanted...

They're great fun to drive, just a car and some wheels, no nonsense, that's why I want one I won't be turboing it straight away, it's just an idea I'll be keeping my current car as well for now as it'll be much better suited for commuting and long distance journeys

Howard have you been smoking your old socks?

I think what you need is a solid man's car, like a erm.....ah a BMW!

I'll speak to the BMW owners association and demand that they permit you to drive without the use of indicators. One day of it and there's no going back.

A Z4 should match your girlie personality with a manly engine.

Back on topic, what sort of performance gains did you get from the turbo addition?

From 140bhp (fly) to 251bhp (fly) @ 10psi. It should be better once the engine is rebuilt but that is really expensive. I can't remember what stock torque is but its now at 231 lb-ft.

The T25 can net over 200bhp (fly) @ 6psi if all the stock parts are in great shape and from the MK2.5 VVTi engine.

Right now, its like 3bhp...with boost leak somewhere or perhaps the compressor on the turbo (as Howard likes to call them ) has gone bye bye. Won't know till I start the debug tomorrow IF it stays dry.

Also, Z4 for <£2k? I'm in!!!

Re: Why now..?? No boost!

I think about 250bhp (most likely from the 1.8) is about the limits of the stock gearbox isn't it?

And please... It's turbo. Not "tubby".

Re: Why now..?? No boost!

Depends on how you treat it. Dean, a guy I know, busted 2 gearboxes when his car was just stock. Lord knows how long his current gearbox will last since he had a GT28 (i think its a GT28) installed.

Gearbox, differential and others that transmit the power will suffer. Trying hard to find a cheap way of uprating the gearbox and differential so I can see what happens when we play in the T3s happy zone of 18-20 psi.

Still..its a pile of poo right now leaking air.

That's a serious power hike, isn't already expensive to convert the engine to use a turbo?
As for the Z4, £2k is fine (however there is a £13k joining fee)

This is why I would be too scared to modify my engine, if something goes wrong on modified cars it tends to be pretty bad/expensive. Suppose I should learn to fix my own car first
