I am officially an old man :(

Fed up of getting soggy, through rain or heat, and being uncomfortable and deaf after an hour, I've given up biking. And become an old man.

After a few PMs to Zak I worked out I could get a pretty good deal on a 2 year old Honda, which is powered by the fuel of Satan

So, with the Honda (old man part) and diesel (sacrilege) bits in mind, this is what I've got....

To say I'm pleased is an understatement - and cheers muchly for your help Zak

Yea, it wasn't a decision I was taking lightly, was going to go for a Yamaha Fazer before I saw this was within budget.

A few quid less than it should have been

Lets just say I could get a brand new Fazer 600 with options and a fairly nice Rolex for what I ended up paying, but as Zak said, it was good value for age/mileage.

Oh, and yes, that is Dad's car

I drove both, and as much as I liked the revvy Vtec engine, it just didn't do it for me. As I'm still a student I can't let running costs run away from me, but all the fun was to be had far far up the rev range. The Diesel is the complete opposite, whereby overtakes can be done whatever gear at whatever revs, and be all over and done with before you are exposed to danger.

I also found I preferred the fly by wire throttle of the diesel to the petrol, which I thought was too sensitive at low speeds. Oh, and did I tell you its got a Variable Vane Turbo the likes of which are fitted to the 911 GT2/Turbo?

I'll be able to say more once I've done more than the 140 miles I've done so far, but so far, so good

Now you say that, the Terriers family members have got, so I may well be able to get a humorous picture or too, but I can say with some certainty that a tartan blanket will not be allowed within a hundred miles of my car

Yup, I can't stop grinning. It's all Parm's fault anyway, showing me the pictures of his TypeS. Damn lol.

Oh, and your missus must have good taste then

Wonderful car. Love the look of it

Although I have zero intention of getting rid of the bike, a car is looking more and more on the cards currently. We seem to have very similar tastes Dave as the Civic is the one I'm seriously looking at. Still, its probably a bit out of my league currently cost wise and I wouldn't imagine the best suitable first car?

Think i'll pick up a cheap second hand car to start with. Road sense ain't bothering me - been riding a big bike on the road for >2 years and countless smaller ones before, just controlling a big(ger) lump of metal is going to be strange

I'd have had a nice Pan-European or Goldwing if I fancied more comfort personally. Still, I've only spent about 3 of my 29 years being a biker, and my bike is currently off the road, so I suppose I can't talk.

Heh indeed, it was an arduous task overtaking all of the caravans too

After getting fed up of getting soggy, I was going to go the 'more powah' route and get the Fazer, and hope that made up for the getting wet part. Decided that would only work in the short term unfortunately, and I found by being forced to wait until the bike insurance had run out to change bikes, I'd accumulated a little bit more in terms of funds for the next purchase, and realised these were just about in reach without going the finance route.

This is actually my first car, been a biker for my entire period on the road. I did, however, learn to drive in a Focus, and as such the lack of rear visibility and size haven't been a massive problem. Modern cars are so easy to drive that its really only having the confidence to attempt it that is the barrier to feeling comfortable in one.

It is strange, however, going down country lanes and worrying about the width of the vehicle and worrying about going past other cars at any speed greater than 20 mph, something that never worried me on the bike

Yea, though I thought that would be a half way house rather than a proper solution. That and I liked sports bikes too much lol.

    Stop grumbling and join Hondas-On-Track

Dave, you should get another bike in a few years (and keep the car) then enjoy the best of both worlds.
