Get the cheapest 125 you can find. At 6'5" you are not going to want to stay on a tiddler for long and the more you spend on it the more you'll lose.

Are you doing the direct access test or are you limited once you've passed?

Re: 125 cruiser suggestions for a big guy

im 19 so ill be limited i will only be doing the cbt for now i need a bike to get to a new job since i dont drive yet so after this i will be trying to get a car on the road then i will take the next step towards a bigger bike.the car is just the practical option so as soon as i can i will be going for a full licence and somthing bigger but until then i need somthing reliable that wont make me look like a tit on a mini moto. i know i can get that junlun for less than a grand no probs and it seems to have quite a following for a china bike but their have been a few bad reviews about its reliability

    thak you.

The only 125 I would have considered Is a Honda Varadero

I'm also quite a big chap and it loks like the only kind of thing that woudl fit (I'd love to get an Africa Twin but my other half has banned me form having a bike )

I had a Gilera Coguar - lovely bike. Unfortunately someone pulled out on me in a big Merc and it was written off.

That's right...you'll only want it to pass your test on it and get a better bike for the Spring. At 6.5" you'll look faintly ridiculous on any 125 so just look the cheapest mechanically sound one you can. Save your cash for your first big (well, 33bhp) bike instead!

Should people with the cognitive skills of this fellow and so concerned over the degree of credibility the bike he rides will give him be allowed on the roads? Maybe a discussion for another thread...

I had the Honda Moby posted above.

Certainly didn't seem to struggle anywhere, as long as you don't expect it to be superbike quick.

    Hi Superredder,
Have you ridden a cruiser any distance yet?
Get along to a dealer that will allow you to try a few different bike types and see which type/make your most comfortable with.
Mrs Zero101 has a Yam 250 Dragstar which I occasionally ride and the ride is a lot different to my RT1100.

2n'd The Honda Varadero, Moby-Dick rec'd, is more suitable for the taller rider and there's a couple of nice/cheap examples on ebay. Ask the sellers a few q's you may get a genuine guy reply.

Re: 125 cruiser suggestions for a big guy

At the end of the day, small bikes are far more susceptible to the weight of the rider than a big bike is. I'm 5'11 and weigh about 75kg (a bit less than 12 stone); on a 100kg 125 that's 180kg all up, so not much to accelerate. A guy who weighs 18 stone (or 115kg or so) on the same bike weighs 225kg all in, or 25% more, so that's 20% less acceleration they can use. Which you'd definitely notice.

If you're a big bloke and you're over 21, don't muck about with a 125, just do your direct access and get a bike that's big enough for you and which has a bit of power. If you're 18/19, I'd do your test sharpish and get a bike with 20+hp, otherwise you'll be a mobile roadblock for quite a while.

For normal/legal road speeds in this country you don't need a motorcycle with more than 33hp- anything more you have to use your discretion with. But 12 or 15bhp won't cut it on motorways/ busy A-roads.

Re: 125 cruiser suggestions for a big guy

Raves right, you would need to spend as little a gap as possible between doing your cbt and your test. You could then move onto a more powerful bike that would be more suited to the job. I'm doing my CBT soon, and going to be doing my test maybe 2/3 months after. Also, my friend who is already into motorbiking said that the market is due to be flooded with 250 bikes, so they should come pretty cheap next year
