    Stereo wiring loom

About 2 weeks ago the car was broken into and the stereo nicked, we have now replaced the glass that was smashed and its time to slot the new radio in.

However I have hit a snag.

The autoleads adaptor for the car doesn't fit. I have the PC2 11-4.

Any ideas on how to get that to fit a standard Iso block?

    ooooh! nasty

Probably the best thing to do is crimp the appropriate bullet connectors on the ends of the leads comging from the standard ISO block and conenct them straight to the wiring loom.

This is going to be a pain in the ass as you will need to find out which wire is which on your merc.

    Re: Stereo wiring loom

The best thing to do is get an ISO socket back in the car, and plug the new stereo straight into that. Either buy a socket with bare wires, or get an extension lead and cut it in half, both can be got from Halfords or cheaper elsewhere if you want to hunt around.

    It has two benefits:

    1. Fitting another stereo later on is easy.
    2. If you come to sell your current stereo it's easier to do so if it's complete and you haven't butchered the wires out of it.

    Something like that perhaps?

    About £6 online plus postage

Or would I be better off getting one with bare ends and cutting and soldering?

i would have thought the pic above looks about right for what was in your car b4 the smash and grab.

soldering will cause a hell of a mess is they come back and wrench it out again.

get a multimeter to make sure its wired back in right tho, theres plenty of pics on google to help you with the rewire, dont rely 100% on the colours matching.

    Re: Stereo wiring loom

I'd give that a go, see if the bullets fit. If not then it isn't a big deal to lop the end off and either put new ones on or join them in another way.

Yeah, I've got the haynes manual for the wiring diagrams, will order one of those and give it a whirl.

    Cheers for the help chaps.

I think he means soldering the bare ends of the ISO socket, not of the radio.

I usually solder them with heatshrink over the top for insulation, neat, tidy and safe job.

btw, if you want to be cheap about getting the connectors, cut one off at a scrapyard. usually grab a few each time I go to keep a nice stock - if it's the same car then the wirings dead easy as it should match up.

i ment soldering the iso to the loom, then theres nothing to break free when they grab a handfull of wires and pull

    Re: Stereo wiring loom

Yeah, if the bullets don't fit I'll chop the connectors off at the 'car' end and just solder or use chocolate blocks to connect them up.

I won't be leaving the faceplate on the stereo at any rate to deter would be thieves.

I don't think the car will be broken into again, fingers crossed, it was targeted as it was left off the drive for a few nights in the same spot whilst it wasn't being used and because we had guests over we needed the space. Its going to live on the drive from here on in.

    Re: Stereo wiring loom

    Halfway there!

Got power to the stereo, just trying to find out what the original wire colours relate to an iso loom

Any ideas where I can look?

I'd prefer a list of colours rather than a wiring diagram, those things just confuse me!

    Re: Stereo wiring loom

The wiring diagrams about the only place really - unless you can find someone who's already worked it out. Try some of the merc forums, a quick google gets this: http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/sh...ad.php?t=42252

For the speaker wires, just remove the speakers and see what's connected to each one. Shouldn't be much left after that anyway.

    Re: Stereo wiring loom

well speaker wires are going to be a solid colour with stripe, and the stripe as the solid colour etc, on the pic i can see a blue with white stripe and white with blue stripe next to it, so 4 sets of those and you have your quad speakers, i can also see a gray with stripe, so assume theres a white with gray stripe next to it, thats half the speakers !

easy way to figure it out is with the stereo turned on and trial and error until you get the 4 corners.

the lone blue wires going to be a possible electric aerial or power to the aerial amp if its a hidden one

    Re: Stereo wiring loom

I have sort of got the speakers working through trial and error, going to remove the speaker grilles tomorrow and sort out which wires go where properly.

I agree that the blue wire is going to be the aerial power, just need to source another female bullet connection as the iso block I have uses a flattened plug thing.

Hopefully it'll all be sorted out soon!

Thanks to everyone who has offered advice so far
