Honda Accord S type 2.4 VTEC: anyone know anything about them?
Lo guys.
Just been offered a chance of one of these, and though it's really too big for Sair, I'm intrigued by it anyway.
Anyone driven one, been privvy to ownership or close to someone with one?
Any feedback would be good, cheers guys.

Rated quite highly by one of the techs at Holden Honda apparently, he was majorly upset when he had to order a 2.4 EX as a replacement because they no longer make them.
How old Zak?

not sure yet... about 03 I think
Just got a text about it, should be good value, will know soon.
Interested in roadtest reports and stuff really.

Our MD had one and loved it.
Mind you he's a Honda zealot.
Principals are a relaxed comfortable cruiser with decent go. Top-of-the-range model so should be littered with toys (Parkers now lists all features and options) although satnav was an option pack extra.
Everyone here who drove that generation of Accord liked them enough to upgrade to the latest edition. Our MD - he chose another Type-S with the big motor rather than everyone else penny-pinching with diseasals.
2.4 is a touch thristy.
I shouldn't worry about it being too big. It's actually pretty thin compared to a raft of similar motors. Only the wagon is particularily long. The new car is much bigger and eats parking spaces for breakfast!
Compared to the Type-R it's alot more comfortable and airy to sit in.
I've not driven one sadly (all directors motors) so hopefully someone else can will you in on that!
BTW have you seen how cheap 2007 Legends are now?! £20k for a 10k mile car, 300bhp and 4wd!
ME WANT :D

What was story about Honda having never had a VTEC engine fail? Not sure how true it is, but you get the idea about its engineering longevity.

they've never had a vtec fail within warranty, provided the services were abided by. Worldwide. And that's an amazing fact.

I've heard of a VTEC failing within warranty :D
Of course it wasn't honda's fault, some plonker was driving at the top end of 6th on a speed run, slowing down punched down to 5th .. but.. oh wait... no that's 3rd.
Predicted RPM was something that an F1 car might even wimper at and of course it blew instantly. They charged him something like £6k for the repair as this sort of tom foolerly isn't covered lol
Moral is, your rev limiters only work on the way up through the gears ;)

I once plunged my poor old V6 up to stupid revs because I didn't realise quite how far out the speedo was. And that engine was noted for poor lubrication of the top end at high revs aswell
