    Oooh I missed this

Nice work Josh - have you tried to see if it'll fit in the back of the Octy yet?

    Lol - no I don't think it'll fit

    Anyway, here's today's progress:

Primer sanded to get rid of any remaining bumps etc, and to give better grip for next spray

First light coat of red paint!

    Wing - three coats applied!

Mini with 3 coats applied! - still need to do the bonnet, and will do another coat... but we're almost there (for the front of the mini anyway!!)

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

Put another coat of red on the car, and bonnet this time... only to run out of spray paint with about 2 - 3 inches left! Thankfully it's only on the bonnet, but it will mean hunting down another Halfords that stocks "Flame Red (89)" - I've bought all the cans available in the stores near to me.

    Here's the wing:

    And here's the bonnet:

It could probably do with another good coat anyway

It's looking good with a new coat of paint on there, light at the end of the tunnel ?

Thanks Yeah nearly - I'm looking forward to getting it back on the road!

I've hooked up some more lighting (2 x 500w jobbies from the ceiling) but I need more side lighting

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

Made a fairly long trip to get some more spray paint to find they only had 3 cans, so ended up running out of spray paint again! I'm happy with the spray paint on the body now though - gave the wings and flat bit in front of the windscreen another coat until it was all shiney and reflective... and then ran out of spray paint doing the bonnet! doh At least I only have the bonnet to do now... and then I'll be able to start putting it back together!

Here's a photo of the bonnet anyway:

Will do another coat and take another pic - so it'll be interested to see if there's much difference

Would it have been worth getting a spray-gun-type-thing setup, or would that cost megabucks? Looks great btw, what are you plans for the engine - 1275cc?

It may have been cheaper in the long run, as I've probably spent £120+ on spray cans as it is! And I've only done the front of the car!

So far my plans for the engine are to change it's oil and filter and apart from that, I think I'll leave it as it is.

Finished spraying the bonnet tonight will wait a few days for it to harden and may be able to start putting the car back together!

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

Took the masking tape off, and started putting the mini back together...

It isn't going as smoothly as I had hoped... for the life of me I can't get the wipers back on, and I managed to overtighten a bolt holding the bonnet on and snap off the thread!

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

    Continued today...

    Cleaning the indicators

Lights and some chrome back on after cleaning

Indicators, chrome, and grill back on after drying out

Changing the oil - the sump plug has a magnetised pole on so it collects any loose shards of metal in the oil

Bumper on and almost complete - just need to put on the number plate, put on the wheel trim, put on the window wipers, lower the car, and check oil and tyre pressure and it'll be ready to drive!!

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

Looking very nice, how well does the new paintwork match up with the back?

Also you have to get some nice wheels. I always think classic mini's look great with small, fat, steel wheels, gives them a great 60's/70's look. Hub caps just look a bit too British Leyland, and big shiny alloys are just a bit vulgar.
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.
