    Looking great

Any idea what the match will be like with the sides and roof?

Well... I finally made some more progress

Sanded with 1500 wet and dry

    T-Cut

Polished with Zymol Cleaner Wax - although the colours come out rubbish on this photo, so I'll have to take another pic

Spent a shed load on spray paint (I'll have to count how many cans I've used) at £6/can it's not exactly cheap.

The match with the rest of the body is looking much better after waxing the car - but the colour looks rubbish in the last photo - will take another tomorrow. If I get some time I'll try putting it back together and may even get it back on the road!

Spent most of today trying to get the boot to fit properly (it never fit properly before) and a new boot seal still hasn't solved the problem. Also fitted boot lock, number plate, plate lights, and lights. All that's left is window and bumper! Hopefully get time to sort these tomorrow and get it back on the road!

    Window in, bumper on:

After taking it for a drive:

And today I fixed the front indicator (short), and got both washers working (one was blocked), and after some enthusiatic use of the washer motor... the battery died... and here's a picture of me charging the battery

Might get some better pics today if it stays sunny

This might help answer the question:

41 cans! I've also got another 2 cans still with some paint in... so if I spent on average £5.50 on each (some of the primer was £5, but most paint was £6), then I'd have spent around £240 on spray paint!

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

I've had a look at the current doors, the passenger side has a fair amount of rust on the bottom, but I'm wondering whether it's worth trying to save the current (rusty) doors on the mini or replace them with some spare doors that are the wrong colour... (and rust free) I've bought a new sander so I'm going to sand back as far as I dare to see what the real condition of the door is ... then take it from there. Probably a waste of time because anything I do to these rusty doors will need respraying, so I may as well just respray the spare doors...

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

You know taking it to the seaside has probably reversed all the hard work and added about a square foot of rust to the car...

    Looking good though, really tidy.

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

Thanks - Yeah I know I spent most of today spraying the car underneath with kurust, and checked for any serious looking rust. Sprayed some waxoil stuff on some rusty looking bits as well. The slick looking tyres isn't really that bad in real life, but it is the worst tyre on there for tread.

After looking at the spare doors and the current doors, I think I can save the passenger door, but will have to replace the drivers door. One of the spare doors is rustier than I expected, but the drivers side spare door is good Will try get some pics up later...

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

    Passenger door:

Passenger door - had previously been filled and sprayed - but left quite bumpy... started sanding

    Painted with kurust.

    Sanded some more

Painted with kurust again and masked off.

Sprayed with "Rust not" (black) temporarily and sprayed over with Flame Red (89) just to protect it from the elements until I get time to sand it down a bit more and do a little bit of smoothing with some filler.
