Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

Okay, so one of the wheels was seriously flaking all over front and back, so I sanded all the back, sanded the front (badly), and these are the pics, basically my silver spray paint doesn't match, and I think I'm going to need to either a) spray them all white, or b) get them sandblasted.

This is obviously not the way to do it - and this is nowhere near ready for spraying.

The back was ready enough for spraying though (plus it doesn't matter too much)

I knew at this stage pretty much that the silver wasn't going to match, but I figured I may as well continue anyway... onto today:

    Doesn't match:

Run a trail/line of washing up liquid round the tyre right on the edge of the wheel - any overspray will then just wipe off - saves on masking tape too

    Done!

Cleaned tyres sprayed / covered with washing up liquid

    sprayed white - whitewalls anyone?

Think I've done enough spraying today. Probably need to give it another few coats tomorrow and then I'll be able to do the holes that are currently wet.

Wouldn't washing up liquid attack the rubber? Guess it won't be enough to make any difference on quite hard/thick rubber.

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

I sprayed a set of Audi Coupé wheels for my Golf in the mid nineties using washing up liquid to mask the tyres - they were fine for the following 2 years... I think.

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

Okay... slow progress. The spraying of the other side of the alloys didn't go well. Needless to say, kids + spray paint + sand are not a good combination... especially if the sand is airborne!! So I'm going to get them blasted... :/

So I focused (a little bit) more on the door...

    Sanding the filled areas...

    Spraying

And some more spraying (with red primer), thought I may as well do a nearby rusty spade as well. If at any point you thought "That doesn't look right", then you'd be right... the filler didn't set at all, so I'm going to have to remove it and refill

And here's a local mini just to show that people do keep them outside in the real world lol

I can only dream of having such a "sorted" mini - roll cage, a boot that shuts properly, nice alloys.

He's only put a roll cage in because it's the only thing holding it together... The rust must be on the inside of that one.

Nice to see you're still working on it though, still need to get the rear arches on the Fiesta sorted.

Well, the wheels went wrong. Kids + Freshly sprayed wheels + and flying sand DO NOT MIX
Then the other day when I sanded a wheel back and started spraying again the h@lfords spray paint was duff! (HATE their paint with a PASSION)....

So decided to carry on with the door

    Pics to follow

Re: My original Mini - My Project Log

This first one is called "REPETITIVE ISSUES WITH FILLER" I filled it MONTHS ago, it never set, so bought some new filler (for thinner dents) and then it STRIPPED the primer off the door... Argh...

This was the beginning of January.
