    Do these fuels actually work

I know when you go to the pump you can buy these 'super' fuels which can 'apparantly' give you better fuel economy and more power.

I also know that after watching a Fifth Gear they do actually give you more power but i'm more worried about my economy. I'm getting feed up of only getting 15mpg (Yes you read it right ).

My main problem with these fuels is that even if i do get extra mpg is it worth the cost. I don't belive it is but if anyone knows better please inform me.

Plus if anyone knows how else to save fuel please tell me. (I've tried basic's like having tyres as the correct pressure)

Depends on your engine. Tests show reduced MPG in some models, and most show reduced miles-per-quid

With diesel no, you won't get added mpg as a result of the fuel, instead they have added cleaning agent to keep the injectors clean, which might help if the alternative is them getting dirty. However, it's usually better value to buy injector cleaner than to buy fuel with it pre-added.

Your using non-super unleaded in an Audi S5?

Surely its mapped for at least 98ron? Shell Optimax would be my choice.

I normaly only buy from Shell or BP for that reason but it these 'Ultimate' fuels i'm interested in.

The only reason i'm not using them yet is the price.

An S5 getting 25+ mpg is already superb, and I'd be cracking one off at the fuel gauge tbh.

Are you SURE? I thought that kinda car was into the 17 - 18 mpg tbh

cylinder by cylinder knock sensing.. it'll prolly run on lower than our normal unleaded if it needed too.

    Whoops wrong number.

    15 MPG. not 25.

Perhaps if i was using the higher stuff it would run better as it would probaly be designed for that.

You're a lead footed S5 driver and a couple of pence on a litre of fuel worry you?
Either you're bought a car beyond your means or you should just forget it and go for Optimax/Ultimate.
Check the manual. Certainly the Old S4 recommends using 98 RON or better fuels.

When i look at a couple of pence at the pumps i dont think its to much but my girlfriend does.
She says i shouldn't be using that fuel as it isn't worthwhile and i personally don't think it is.

Plus with the car being serviced regularly i'm wasn't to bothered about the recommened things (never even looked through the manual) but with the credit crunch starting to hit perhaps i should be trying to stop an expensive repair bill cropping up.
