    Re: I'm sorry, is it me or is it *stoopid* season for birds?

    Car in front of me braked "randomly" yesterday, luckily not an emergency stop. Wondered WTF was going on till a pheasant waddled out from in front of it.

    I've had a fox play chicken with me whilst doing 80 on a dual carriageway. Let's just put it this way, he wasn't as cunning as his species would suggest...

    I've murdered a few bunnies in my time whilst out driving, traffic coming the other way and the silly things just sit there looking at the car, they make no attempt to move, so one and a half tonnes of Vectra squashes them, as much as I hate doing it I'd sooner not kill another driver and his family because of a rabbit with no road sense.

    I had a fox once run out of the hedge, I slowed down a bit and moved over slightly as the road was empty and the fox was running down the kerb on my side of the road, then just as I was overtaking him he decided to cross over..

    Needless to say when I was changing the brake's a few days later I saw parts of said fox again...

    Birds, fine. I admit to slightly slowing for a Red Kite that decided to land in the road just ahead of me. But my problem is deer - they are always jumping out of hedges infront of me and I really don't fancy hitting one at 60 thanks.

    So you slow down further, and hope it walks/waddles/stumbles to the kerb. Nope. It just sits there.
    I have this problem, not with birds, but sadly with living on a council estate, the local chavs.

    I've begun to accelerate at them, whilst waving a sword out of my window and screaming at them.

    The police dislike it, but it clears the road

    I posted about this very subject on another forum last week.

    Pheasants are at the top of the list, I've lost count of how many of these I've hit;
    Squirrels are fast, but you can get them if they're not paying attention;
    Rabbits, many, many rabbits, most with myxomatosis (hence them not moving out the way), all wild;
    Pigeons, easy prey, they tend to fly up rather than out of the way meaning they quite often get a beating from my windscreen and so on...

    I've only ever hit one badger, thankfully someone had hit it before me so it was already lying down. My bellypan shaved the top layer of fur/skin before detaching itself from the car and depositing the fur/skin combo all the way along the bottom of the car. I spent about 10 minutes lying on the road picking off fur/skin/stuff from the catcon/exhaust with a bit of tree before carrying on my journey to work. I had to jetwash it when I got home, the smell was awful

    The Mrs got home from a night out a few weeks ago to find the bird she thought had flown out the way was lodged, head first, in the front grille of her Ibiza. Rather than take a photo of it, she tried to remove it. The head stayed wedged in the grille while the body came off in her hands - pure class!

    It's amazing how much damage a rabbit/pheasant/seagull can do to your beloved car. Cracked fog lights, broken bumper clips, damaged grills..

    If all you yokels lived in nice civilized cities you wouldn't have problems. Only thing I've ever hit was a pigeon at 50mph on the A12 near Hackney. Not a mark on my car, I daresay Pidge wasn't so lucky.

    Re: I'm sorry, is it me or is it *stoopid* season for birds?

    I had a "watership down" moment on the Honiton bypass heading near Exeter recently.......my friend who was also in the car still keeps trying to make me feel bad about it.

    Poor rabbit just seemed to appear from some mist before getting a BMW @ 100mph instagib him

    Also, years ago a friend in his pride and joy at the time (a Vauxhall Cavalier SRi 130) hit a fox on a country lane on the way home from a "party" in Cornwall. The amount of damage to his car was incredible. Cost a small fortune to fix.

    Latest confirmed kill is a ... something;

    I hit this fella while on my bike (pedal, not motor).

    I saw him run from the side of the road into the middle and then he seemed to have a change of plan and he turned around into my path and under my wheel.
