    Keyed...

I'm yet another victim of been keyed... just gone out to my car and noticed someone has keyed it... not sure if it just happened or if it was when I was parked round the other side of the block (remember the parking ticket situation thread? well I can't park infront of my house now) so I'm guessing someone got pissed off with me parking there. Has gone white in one area, it's a silver car so is this just the primer?

How much am I looking at getting it repaired? Will get pictures soon.

PS: It's on the passenger side wing only...

Depends on how deep/big it is. If it's down to the metal then the whole panel may have to be re-sprayed, sometimes even a replacement panel if the metal is actually dinted by the key. If it's not that deep then a decent touch up won't cost you a massive amount but it's important to have it done by a reputable shop, a bad touch up job can be seen as bad as the original scratch.

    Re: Keyed...

Or just touch it up yourself in the meantime for protection, especially if you're going to park there again. Only get it done properly when you're sure it's not going to happen again, or before you sell the car.

I'm just going to park it somewhere else where it should be ok... there is a police base over the road so will just park it outside there!

Gonna put some wax on it for now... just bought some silver t-cut off ebay too.. if that doesn't do the job it looks like I'll have to take it to a spray garage .

Know how you feel, although mine hasn't been keyed, I did catch some youths last week trying to take the wing mirror off my Vectra, chased them down the street, can't have been any older than 12, and this was just before midnight, his last word was he was going to find his brother to beat me up.

Yeah if I caught them I would of done a lot worse! has been a bad day for me today... got soaked by a van driving through a puddle.. expensive bill from the garage for getting some bolts drilled out and now my car getting keyed...

That's shocking.. I can't believe some arse would do that... I'm always going to park my car well out of the way now anyway so hopefully nobody will go near it...

Why would a 12 year old do that? So he can tape it to his bike? Christ...

    Re: Keyed...

Chances are you'll be looking at a respray. If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail it won't polish out.

I don't understand what goes through their little minds before they do it, someone should key them!

Yeah I can feel it with my finger nail

Anybody know what I'm looking at for a respray? It's only the wing thank god... It's probably cheaper getting a new wing from the scrappy!? That'll only cost about £15.... it's just finding one in silver.

Yeah anything that catches your fingernail will require painting. What car is it? a scrappy could be a good idea, certainly be cheaper than a panel respray, particularly as silver is a bugger to match so may require alot of blending with other panels.

I couldn't say to be honest, you'd be better going round a few local bodyshops and get quotes.

Could also try Chips Away, but I don't know if they'd be able to touch up something like that.

Hope you get it sorted out and it never happens again.

Yeah. Even if I do get another panel, the other panel could be a different shade due to damage from the sun? Or does it not effect silver much?
