    peugot 205gr

ok, so not the pimpest car on the block - but its my *first* ever car, bought with my own hard earned money

only thing is, there's no manual with it! Well, it is '93. Has anyone any experience with working the Clarion radio thingy, how the heck the immobiliser works, and what the wee light above the fuel gauge is that looks like a frying pan?!

Anyone got an old Haynes manual around? Cheers!!

Could it be the oil dispensing thingie? That looks like a frying pan. Saying it wants doing something with oil?

If it's similar to my old 306 (well actually the wife's old 306) - '94 M plate - then you need the stereo and immobiliser codes for future reference. If the stereo asks for a code when you switch it on you need to use the radio preset buttons to roll the digits round (it's a 4 digit code and station buttons 1 to 4 manipulate numbers 1 to 4 of the code). The immobiliser is red when armed (as is the stereo alarm / lock out) and should turn to green when unlocked. The remote central locking (plip) will turn everything off automatically IIRC - there's 2 buttons - one that locks the normal locks and one that does the dead locks... The one that locks the normal locks also unlocks both the normal locks and the dead locks when the car is locked (still with me?!?)

The 306 is sitting on my drive with a dead battery at the mo so I can't test this - take it with a pinch of salt!

Oh and IIRC the keypad immobiliser doesn't arm unless the alarm is on (should have a key that can switch this on and off - the 'master' switch is under the bonnet on my 306)

The stereo itself probably has the usual options (left / right, rear / centre balance, bass and treble controls)... Can't remember how you set the presets for the radio (but if you bought it locally they might already have something OK programmed in)

Hope some of that helps - and get the oil checked out / changed... Warning light in the 306 for oil is an oil can (looks like a small watering can). All the warning lights come on before you start the car (show's they're working!) Only one that should stay on (before you move) is the handbrake one.

i'm taking it in for a check tomorrow - so hopefully get it all sorted

this is what the picture looks like

The immobiliser is seems to be controlled by a 2 prong mini D shaped plug/socket combo - a wee red light flashes, but stops for a bit when i connect the two

Only thing I can think of from that pic is perhaps the coolant level? No idea TBH though! Is there a separate engine temp gauge? Is that OK?

    What engine?

That's the 'catalytic warning light', it means it thinks summats up with the emmisions. Could be anything from a duff sensor/vacumbe leak/dead cat...

hmmm - its a 1.4 GR - I guess it's the later cat model then!
must be a duff sensor if it's for the emissions - it goes on and off sporadically, and its just had an MOT with emissions test which it passed

thanks for all your help so far!
