where are the damn things? my haynes manual recons they need changing, reading it seems to suggest the alternator, but looking under there shows nothing up.. just something which would (logically) distribute the sparks, but not create them..
where should i look?
They will be in the dizzy, not the alternator
Imagine a half oval shaped strip of metal, with a set if contacts on the end.
Quite possibly 2 of them (depending on design)
Edit - I could well be talking complete poo about the 'oval' aspect, more probably 2 straight'ish metal 'plates', this image should help

ok. where in my car am i likely to find it? underneath the distro?
If you definatley have them, then they may well be under a dust cover in the dizzy. Take off the dizzy cap and see if you can see them.Quote:
