GTi estate, didn't think they did one?! Just had a look in back of Top Gear and on Peugeot website and it appears they are only available as 3 door hatchback.

Oh yeah, they are. GTi 180 is amazingly fast, it's just an issue with reliability that personalyl puts me off considering them. Plus if you don't go for all the optional sports grills and big alloys etc then they don't really look THAT fast.
The HDi estate is a pretty good mover still!
Yep, apparently so, they are a specialist place that do Fiat/Alfa and just started on the MINI range and VW Golf Diesels (180bhp/295lbs)... the biggest gains are on turbo diesels (typically at least 25% increase). The Alfa 2.4 JTD engine is a really good engine (5 pot), and with the Euro 2 version of the engine they can take it up from 136bhp std. to over 190 bhp and 300 lbft of torque. They can actually take it even further but would probably want you to prove how well you can drive first Anyway don't want to stray off topic or come across like i'm promoting anything.Originally Posted by Russ

angon, if a simple ecu flash can give that much power, then why dont vdub/alfa do it before they send the cars out - they could charge loads more for them..

In simple terms when manufacturers make the cars they make them all the same whether they're going to Barnsley, Mexico, or Iceland. They must be able to withstand massive high temps, massive low temps. that we're never gonna see here in the UK. Also they must be able to stand being driven well or badly and service well or badly. With the ECU flash they replace it with one that removes all the extraneous tollerances and releases flexibility to reassign the power. I don't know a lot about it, just know the bloke who runs it as he used to be on a forum I use.Originally Posted by 5lab

because like all chipped cars it reduces some of the tolerances.
in that same vein why didn't the 200sx come from the factory running 15psi - becuase they espect people to put crap fuel in , and not service them as well a they should be.
The ECU re-map will probably up the boost levels which is the easiest way of eeking power out of a dturbo.

Quickly going back to the RS2 -
Audi built the basic car and shipped it over to Porsche, They tweaked the engine (315bhp I think) and suspension, fitted new brakes and wheels. I was lucky enough to witness the process in Stuttgard along side the original Merc E500 production line on the same site (behind very tinted windows).
In fact mega sleeper - Mercedes E500 (Europe only)

Estate sleepers are the best. Also, how about the twin engined Smartzuki? Was a smart with two suzuki bike engines in, the journalist who drove it almost rolled it
Also, have seen two Triumph Spitfires, one with a big V8 from a chevvy with around 300bhp/300ft/lb. However, needed extensive rear end work to handle the torque. Also a Triumph Vitesse with a Rover V8 and Nissan Skyline Suspension.
Best of the bunch was a Spitfire with a rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishel Engine from an old RX-7 in, worked fine, and doesn't have much torque so most mechanicals were alright.
oh got another one - the rover 827, looks like the run of the mill 800 but with a V6 lump under the bonnet! very nice car!
