    Poorly car!

My bargain banger ( Fiat Brava ) has ended up in the garage for the first time in 9 months!!!! she started coughing and spluttering last week, no power from the accelerator, everytime I put me foot down the revs dropped and the engine management light was on

Jon diagnosed the throttle potentiometer whatever that is???? Jon knows all about them : it just sounded painful and expensive to me Jon took her in, and plugged her into the scanner and the fault was indeed the throttle potentiometer! New doodah ordered and I should have her back Monday

The throttle pot is a little sensor that tells the ECU how far the throttle is open. Should be an easy and cheap fix.

the TPS could go on any ageing car and @ £55, isn't the worst part that could go on a car.

I did 130k in my Bravo before I sold it, and other than usual maintenance stuff (tyres, brakes, clutches, exhaust etc) the only things that went were a CV joint, and an injector/leads. Good reliable cars if you look after them.

Really? My wife ragged the hell out of her Uno and still the damned thing wouldn't die

Gave it away in the end to someone in the family that needed a car, they ran it for 3 years with no trouble before getting bored of it and driving it to the scrappy.

    Re: Poorly car!

my first car was a brava, 80 sx. unusual choice for a first car, but weighed very little and had a fair punch for a first car.

It got ragged to within an inch of it's life, ran around for 3 months with it's timing out and it still refused to give up the ghost.

I sold it 10 months later, against a Golf, for £800 less than what I'd paid for it, not bad considering I'd covered a good 16k in it since purchase.

As I've said elsewhere in this very forum - it's broken today, not tomorrow. Mine's still up on the ramps, broken

    Re: Poorly car!

Thanks everyone, car is fixed and back on the road.... I have to say despite all the negativity against Fiats my car is great! and any car will run well if it's been taken care of. It's an 11 year old car, there's bound to be niggles like that, but it's the first time since I've owned it there's been problems.

I was given the car, the guy who owned it replaced it with a Focus ST and it's always in the garage having stuff done! Jon said that he should of stuck with the Brava because it's in far better condition
