Ford Mondeo 2.0 litre petrol eng Misfire

There appears to be a slight misfire on the car - it was fine until yesterday - Ive had it for 12000 miles / 14 months roughly. Ive checked the oil (fine but lower than normal and now topped up) coolant other fluids, spark leads and plugs (although I dont have the tools to take them out yet)

The misfire seems to be mostly at idle and once the car engine is revving much quicker (2-3k rpm +) it seems fine, and after a warm drive the car idles mostly okay when stationary but with an occassional misfire...

What do you think this is most likely to be or what could it be? And is the best thing to try replacing the leads and spark plugs and if that doesnt cure it, take it to a garage?

Smoke seems fine - nothing excessive or even noticable really and the car engine wise has been completely fine until now. (lots of mixed driving, short journeys, long motorway journeys etc). Mpg for the last long trip back from Cornwall in a day and the car was getting 30mpg worked out manually which is slightly better than the average of 28 / 29.

    Thanks in advance

    josh

Might be the coil pack - the one we had on the Focus packed up just like that.

Plugs arcing under the leads is common, also an air pipe splits under the coil pack,
or maybe the spare's flat, what do i know.

    Lol at filbert.
I replaced the leads (£5 from scrapyard), replaced sparks £10 halfords...
And it's still the same... interestingly the scrapped Mondeo that I got the leads from had it's distributer? (the bit that the leads come from) taken from the scrapped car, so I guess it could be that?

What you call the distributor is the coil pack, look under that for an air pipe, I can't remember where exactly but it was common for it to split, you have to remove the coils to see it.
