In that case, I agree, dont go for comprehensive, it's not worth it.
Your aim is building your no claim anyways.

Is it not discriminative to charge men more for the exact same cover?
Have you tried looking on ebay for Cars? What sort of age car are you looking for? As new as you can afford?
I just find it amazing that the insurance company charges you more than replacing the bloody car (but I guess they think you are gonna crash it into a Ferrari)...
It's the damage to other cars more than the car he has. That is the point of TPFT, your car isn't repaired if you are to blame, just the person who isn't to blame
Hit a porsche/bmw/audi and suddenly that £3-4k isn't difficult to rack up at all
Glad I got you looking at the Seats , can you try a quote saying you are 25 and see if it's worth the wait?
Hey DG, for my first car - and incidentally it is still my car - I have the following:
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...1501?logcode=p
One of the lowest insurance groups and they don't look too bad (especially with some alloy wheels on)
Try a quote on that
Why not try an older car and go for classic insurance?
My first car was a 1.1l metro and it cost approx £700 to insure.
Reliable enough and unless something major goes its easy to maintain, even major suspension oily bits are <£100 to replace.

I'd move away from the small cars like clios, festa's etc as they're typical young peoples cars and therefore like being a bloke they carry a premium to insure them.
Stupid as it sounds, I've sometimes found the insurance lower on the larger cars if they're a typical "sales rep" type of car like a Mondeo, Vectra or similiar. For a Seat, I think it's called an Exeo or Leon for a similiar type of car.
In fact, my first car was an Orion 1.6 that only cost £600 to insure with 1 years NCB (been a named driver on my mums insurance)

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
I got a seat for £400
In fact, i got 5...
Renault Clio 1.2 S reg was £400
£1700 for my first year, fully comp (Fully comp is cheaper for me because of my area) in DN15 (With LV)
This year was £770, with £40 cashback through quidco (With Aviva), so effective cost £730
So around a 67% reduction after year one.
Although the premium went up if i put my job title as driver (of another vehicle) instead of storeman, and it wouldn't let me put both so, i used storeman as technically i am that more of the time
Both premiums are with my Dad as a named driver (brought this year down by ~£5, brought last years down by ~£200).
But obviously what works in my area might not work in yours.
Avoid Aviva for Manc for a start, they come out quite expensive under pretty much all circumstances...
