Speed Cameras on the M1 North

I used to drive up from Maidenhead along the M40-M42-A42-M1 to get home to North Yorkshire as at the it avoided the awful M1 roadworks and is a generally nicer drive than just M1 all the way in my opinion. This time round (its been few months) i noticed they have managed to finish the roadworks and traffic is flowing through it nicely.
Unfortunately this was a way into the journey and i think i got a bit complacent with my speed management and i may have been going a little too fast down the stretch once you hit the M1 from the A42.

Does anyone know what kind of cameras they have on this new stretch of road and what kind of tolerance they have. i would hate to have clocked up points after being quite careful all these years Admittedly it would be my own fault for being a bit reckless but i was following the general flow of traffic (i think) so im pretty sure all those around me would have got clocked aswell.

I reckon its probably just nerves from driving through a 'new' bit of road, i had the same 'OMG IM BUSTED' feeling when i went down the M42 and the M25 for the first time and then, looking back, i wasnt going anywhere near ticket speed it was probably more like 72 or 73... but any info you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Speed Cameras on the M1 North

you're given an allowance of 10% of the speed limit with cameras. so for a 30 you can go 33 and 70 77 etc. anyone else maintained over 5mph over the limit for the average speed ones? i daren't go any faster as i already have 3 points on the license and drive for a living. oh and for the m42 at least the speed cameras aren't active unless the signs are lit up on the gantry's, so be careful if you see the national speed limit sign and floor it!

Re: Speed Cameras on the M1 North

I know a lot of people who just floor it through the SPECS cameras and get away with it, i tend to just sit at around 55 (on the GPS not the speedo).

The M42 cameras are not active at all until a limit is imposed? i thought that they got you if you where going 85 or something.
What about if for some random reason, even though the roads are clear, a 40MPH speed limit just pops up (i.e. the guy is the control room is just bored) and everyone just ignores it?

Id like to read an article or something on all these new speed cameras but factual primary information seems difficult to come buy.

It'd have to be several signs in a row as I don't think they'd do you for the first indication of a large speed difference. But there's no limit to how many tickets they can send out as it's mostly automated. Of course, if significant numbers queried the ticket then they'll probably rescind them.

Depending how far North you go, A19 is closed on night works and from Leds up the M1 to York (and further up) there are road works on a 50mph average speed limit

Re: Speed Cameras on the M1 North

Yeah I was worried that would have blocked me but i went further up the A1 and took the A61 to the A167 instead just to be sure.
