    Car Bargains!

Has anyone looked at the Chrysler Neon second hand car prices lately?

    look at this example.

    http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD...ia?id=40341746
P Reg Chrysler Neon 2.0 LX
Petrol, Automatic, White, Saloon, 23,000 miles , 4 Doors. 1 OWNER, ABS, airbag double, airconditioning, bumpers in color, central doorlocks with remote control, electric windows, full service history, parking sensor, power steering, radio/cd/cassette. £1,999.

Now that is a bloody cheap car for a 6 year old car. I've seen some as low as £1500.

    Superb value!

You could spend 2k on that, drive it for 5 years, an then sell it for 1k probably!

    Good value to me means.....

    Renault Megane RT Sport 1.6
    1998 S/R 30-50 k miles......

    About £2500 to £3000

    or

Citroen ZX 1.9 TD Esatate 97P 80,000 miles in my garage at home....1 owner full history....£2300

    Shameless pimpage tho

Yeah, SH cars are just unbelievably cheap now. I just can't understand why people buy new. Even if I won the lottery I'd buy secondhand!

I'm saving up for a '96 BMW 740. I'll be looking to pay 5 grand in a year or so , although I saw a '92 740 for £1495 in a local free ad mag the other day. Fully loaded too. Might have to get one of them to tide me over. Auto trader had an MOTd D reg MR2 for £695....I paid nearly double that for mine and I doubt it's in better condition. That'll learn me.

Thats a damn nice find, but as already said above I'd guess you'll pay when it comes to parts and labour on one.

As for the new cars vs SH cars, I think alot of people go for new for a few reasons. Better finance deals (in my experience) long manufacturers warranty and that brand new car smell

True. I've got to learn how to fix cars, it can't be that difficult. Time to go to night school methinks. What I really want to learn is welding. I tried it once and it's a good laugh, and I reckon you could make a packet restoring stuff like Beetles/Campers, Triumph Stags etc.....[rubs hands together at potential earnings].

Yeah, I suppose buying a new car is safer in that you know you'll lose money on it, but you're not going to gt hit with a huge bill if things go wrong. Given the choice between a new Fiesta at £10K or a beemer 740 at £5k though, I'll take the beemer and put the change towards insurance, petrol and things going wrong. Cars are generally so well made now that most will do 200k with no major work. The body on my MR2 is tatty, but it's 15 years old. The engine is still fit at 116K (touch wood). And I only do 4000 to 6000 miles a year anyway.

its a lot of work and time to restore cars, specially like my dad used to do, restored all his cars, austin healey - triumph stag - 1933 austin 7 ruby - volvo p1800s

etc etc, all took him around a year or so, and didn't sell on for much of a profit. the only 2 cars hes ever made a profit on was a mangy old moggy 1000 which he bought for a fiver and sold for 50 quid, and the sh*t for buggery fast ford escort with the lotus engine full rally kit etc which ended up written off whilst it was parked and he made a profit with the insurance.

its not *that* cheap - i've seen mondeos and vectras both for less than that (my 6 yr old mondeo estate was under a grand) and they're better all-round cars..
