    Tyre choices

    Hi all,

My car needs some new rubber (on the front) in 205/45 R17

Current tyres are Bridgestone Potenzas RE040s, but they seem to be £140 each fitted. Which I cant afford at the moment, can anyone recommend any cheaper alternatives?

    Thanks all

    Re: Tyre choices

What car are these fitted to ?

    RE040's are a nice tyre
When I had 17" rims on my car I think they were supposed to be 215/45R17 but they came with 215/40R17's as they were much cheaper...

I run falken ziex 912's on my scoob, overall grip wise i've had better but these are all season tyres so the grip level hardly changes come rain, mud or shine. They also did really well the last few times it snowed.
The sidewalls are quite soft so you may find you get a little more roll than before, but the tyres are very progressive towards the limit and dont just fall off like some i've had before (the more grip a tyre has i find the snappier they get on the limit)

A quick look on blackcircles and they're £90 each fitted, it does look like you have a lot of choice in that size!

    Re: Tyre choices

I rather love the Toyo TR1s on the Impreza and will be replacing them with the same. Fantastic wet tyres and really resistant to aquaplane considering the width. They actually feel really similar to the Eagle F1s the looks suspiciously like, just cheaper.

Downside is terrible behaviour in the snow! Got a 2nd set of rims with winters on last year.

    Re: Tyre choices

I have Michelin PS3s atm, they're excellent, but no cheaper than the Bridgestones alas. I wouldn't recommend Pirellis - had them before, a bit rubbish (poor ride, poor grip).

swapped my ps1's to ps3's on the back of the bmw, my god its a hell of a step up, shame it will cost to swap the fronts to the same

    Bridgestones RE040, albeit cheaper - £115 ish

Goodyear Excellence - couldn't see the F1 Asymmetric 2 in this size? £100ish

    http://www.camskill.co.uk/m54b0s457p...L_BMW_3_Series

    Continental Sport Contact 3 - £100 ish

All prices include VAT but not delivery or fitting - still worked out cheaper to order the tyres for my BMW even after shipping and fitting had been taken into account.

I called my local protyre place and they matched camskill's tyres only price including fitting. Worth having a phone around...

    Re: Tyre choices

Splashed out on a full set of Michelin Energy Savers last week. Very good ratings in all the reviews I read for traction, noise, etc - and especially well regarded for wear (20-30k easy). Barely got 10k out of my Yokohamas!
